ESTABLISHMENT OF UNCLASSIFIED POSITION TITLE

DEAN OF PROFESSIONAL STUDIES

November 1, 1974

WHEREAS, The State Colleges are continuing to diversify their majorprograms from teacher education into other fields, particularlythose of other professional studies; and

WHEREAS, The title Dean of Teacher Education is not appropriate to theposition responsible for the supervision of other professionalstudies; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That, effective November 1, 1974 the title Dean of TeacherEducation, in Salary Groups 34 and 35, is discontinued, and

RESOLVED, That, effective November 1, 1974 the title Dean of ProfessionalStudies, in Salary Groups 34 and 35, is established, and be itfurther

RESOLVED, That persons holding the title Dean of Teacher Education priorto the effective date of this resolution are hereby appointedto the position Dean of Professional Studies without change ofsalary.

Having followed appropriate affirmative action procedures forthe selection of a Dean of Professional Studies from within the facultyand staff of the College, I recommend to the Board of Trustees theappointment of Professor Rocco Orlando to that position.

Dr. Orlando has demonstrated his competency as an administratorand is a highly respected professor in our Administration and Super­vision Sixth Year Program. He also serves from time to time as amediator appointed by the State Education Department to help resolvecollective bargaining differences between teachers and administrationin school districts throughout the State. I consider his background incollective bargaining to be a useful asset for a lllember of my Cabinet.

I attach his vita, which provides a complete summary of hiseducational and professional background. If approved by the Trustees,his appointment would becollle effective as of the beginning of the1976-77 academic year.
