I am running to be a delegate for Hillary Clinton. I Chair the Jackson County Democrats and for many years have helped elect Democrats. I support the labor movement. With unions under attack, it’s important for us to strengthen our Party at the local level by recruiting volunteers to help elect leaders who share our key values of a strong middle class, a healthy environment that will sustain us into the future, plus a community vision that includes a path forward allowing all citizens to reach their fullest potential.

Hillary is the candidate best equipped to help us reach our goals. She has the experience necessary to take command from day one to quickly identify the issues and garner resources necessary to work with Congress. With a Democratic Senate, she will be able to help implement a reform-minded agenda to address the long neglected issues facing our country. To serve our candidates, the Jackson County Democrats make office space available for three campaigns, with more space available this fall for phone banks to contact voters. The office is a convenient pick-up location for campaign materials. I will continue to recruit volunteers to work on campaigns. I will use our newsletter and social media to promote campaign events and support candidates. I will personally volunteer time to the campaigns for canvassing and phone banks as needed.

I am the son of an immigrant; a woman who came to this country from El Salvador at age 14, where she had been orphaned by her adoptive mother at the age of 7 (and the Japanese ambassador who left the mother of his child) because of the gruesome civil war unfolding in front of her eyes. This is my background, which propels me to do everything I possibly can to give opportunity and hope to people who typically feel hopeless.

I started my life in activism and politics at age 15 when I got involved with the Oregon United for Marriage campaign. Since then, I have worked on the Measure 88 campaign to get undocumented immigrants driver cards, Senator Merkley’s reelection campaign, and State Senator Bates’ reelection campaign, with whom I also intern. I am involved to help bring real change to politics, and I know that Hillary Clinton is the only candidate who can bring that change to the country which I am proud to call home and, more importantly, which my mom is now proud to call home.

During my time as DPLC Chair, I helped build the party’s volunteer & financial support, so that for the first time, in 2014 we hired an organizer to manage our volunteer base & run our GOTV operation. I’m incredibly proud of the results we achieved in Lane County – we increased Democratic turnout by about 3 points from 2010 to 2014, when in the rest of Oregon, Democratic turnout in the General actually fell by about a point. So, that is the power of organizing and the power of hard work by people who are committed to Democratic values. I am currently the Democratic nominee for State Representative in House District 14, having won my competitive primary in May with a grassroots, people-powered campaign. In 1996 I graduated from college and was inspired by the Clintons’ commitment to public service to join the Peace Corps, where I served 2 years as a rural health volunteer in West Africa. Since then, I’ve worked to advance Democratic principles such as raising the minimum wage, environmental issues and protecting a woman’s right to choose. This work has been particularly challenging in rural regions. 1 in 5 Oregon Democratic primary voters live in a rural area, and I wish to represent these Democratic voters as a delegate for Hillary Clinton to the Democratic National Convention. I am currently the Vice Chair of the Deschutes County Democrats where we work against tremendous odds to elect Democrats to state and local office. We need to take the concerns and the needs of Democratic voters in rural areas to the national level, and as a delegate for Clinton from Deschutes County, I intend to do so.


Electing Democrats in Central Oregon has never been easy; however, it’s not impossible. For 2 years Deschutes Democrats have built and run a Neighborhood Leader Program which has helped elect Democrats to local offices. We will continue to run this program through this cycle to elect more Democrats at all levels of government. I served in the Oregon House as vice-chair of a natural resources committee and on the committee dealing with families and women’s health. I have owned a business and consulted on renewable energy for 33 years. I have served on the county planning commission and currently serve as an elected board member and former chair of the Clackamas Soil & Water Conservation District and previous chair of the Clackamas River Basin Watershed Council. I have served on agency rulemaking committees and am currently a member of the City of Sandy budget committee. I strongly support Hillary and will work hard on her campaign to support her philosophy that we need to “create good-paying jobs and make America the world’s clean energy superpower” among other issues.

I am currently in my second year as the president of the Pacific University College Democrats. I am also the Co-Chair for the Young Democrats of Washington County and the Political Director for the College Democrats of Oregon Executive Board. This election “season” has empowered more voices to speak out than any other election I can recollect. The tax brackets still favor the wealthiest in this country. This has created such a disparity between economic classes and continues to divide everyone. We must elect officials who are willing to be honest and raise taxes on those that can afford it...or at least bring their brackets closer to what the middle class is paying. As a mother of a chronically ill child, who is now an adult, keeping our Affordable Care Act means she is protected. This is something I will personally fight to keep. Healthcare should not be a “perk”. It is a moral right! I ask that you consider me with your votes and I will represent you and all of our citizens who need an advocate on their side. When I return from the Democratic National Convention, I will continue to reach out to those that have not registered to vote yet and get them registered. Even though I am new to Clackamas County, I am not new to politics as I have been involved for over 40 years volunteering on various campaigns.

As an immigration lawyer, I have a front row seat to the issues they face. Most DO NOT get the immigration issue correct. It is important to have someone who knows that issue so that at the Convention we get it right.

I have intimate knowledge of other important issues. As a person who returned to law school at a later age I understand the student loan crisis. I also have a brother who suffers from schizophrenia and my mother is the recipient of the NAMI national award for her tireless work at the state level here in Oregon on behalf of families with members with mental illness.

These are just some of the major issues where Democrats can set ourselves apart from the Republicans and make an important difference with key demographics of voters in November.


As a Precinct Committee Person and Neighborhood Leader I have seen where grassroots campaigning can make a difference to get out the vote. As an attorney, everywhere I go I constantly advocate on behalf of issues that impact my immigration and other clients. I also discuss how electing more Democrats that share these values is most important especially in 2016. In 1986, SEIU Local 99 sent a group of us to San Diego to work with the famed farmworker Organizer, Marshal Ganz. He and 16 young community Organizers turned out 5,000 minority voters over a six week period of time to elect Maureen O’Connor the new Mayor of San Diego. It was wildly exciting - I was sent to the home of a black woman who had been selected to GOTV in her neighborhood. I just assisted her with anything she needed. I will never forget Marshal Ganz having all the Organizers dance and chant to get hyped to go out every day. And all the butcher paper all over the walls to show the progress of each Organizer.


I prefer to do the grunt work that puts me in contact with regular working voters. I like to phonebank and canvass.

The Committee solicited ideas from County Democrats for inclusion in the Platform. The Democratic Party is the only party I’ve known since I was old enough to vote. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and live near my daughter’s family here in Eugene. Having two grandchildren is my incentive to do what I can to ensure they have a bright future. I do this by volunteering as one of many relentless phone bankers focused on helping to get the vote out and donate to the DNC when I can. Becoming a delegate for the Democratic Party is another opportunity for me to serve the folks I’m counting on to safeguard opportunities for all families. As a delegate, I’ll do my part to help carry the voices from my community to the convention, work to get others excited in wanting to help win the election, and help champion local and national political events to seat our candidates nationally. My leadership and organizational skills are strong, and l enjoy working on campaigns that help change today and reshape tomorrow. I believe working together keeps America strong.


When I return from the convention, I will contact Democratic Party leaders in my state (i.e., Senators, Congressmen, Governor) and volunteer to help with their campaigns, and I will resume making calls to get out the vote for the general election. Through my network of friends, family and social groups I will ask for volunteers and supporters to help staff area phone banks, canvass neighborhoods, and encourage individual donations to help support local and national campaigns.

I am Doris Towery from Springfield Oregon. I have been a registered Democrat from the time I could vote. My grandparents were delegates to the Democratic Convention when I was young and I always admired their passion for the party. I have worked in newspapers and endorsed many progressive candidates over the years. I am pro-choice and believe a woman’s right to choose is a human right. I have waited my entire adult life to see a woman President and I want my daughter to see that happen. I served on the Lane Transit District for 6 years and believe having a strong transportation system improves our quality of life. All of the political donations I have made over the years have been to Democrats or organizations supporting progressive democrats and progressive values. I would be honored to represent Oregon at the convention.


I would go door to door, phone bank and work to promote Democrats on the ticket in my county, state and of course for President. I would volunteer for the party in whatever role I am needed. I would also volunteer with PPAO for any work they are doing to help elect pro-choice democrats. I would also continue to promote democrats on my social media.

In 1968 my grandmother received a telegram telling her she had been chosen as a delegate for Senator Bobby Kennedy. I am thinking of my grandmother as I write this application and how she treasured that telegram and several letters from Senator Kennedy. I’d like to be part of the history of electing our first woman President.

It would be my honor to represent Oregon Democrats at this year’s convention. As Oregon’s 2014 Oregon Teacher of the Year I travelled all over the state and spoke to over 10,000 Oregonians from Gold Beach all the way up to the Gorge. I feel I understand the amazing things this state has to offer and to be a spokesperson for Oregon has been a highlight of my life.


Though the majority of my events (over 400 now!) are centered on education, I have called out Republican leaders for letting down students and I have given props to those who have stood up for education. At LGBT events and education events alike I discussed Jeff Merkley and defined him as a friend of education worthy of any Oregonian’s vote. I have not been shy to say that Democrats are the only thing standing in the way of a corporate takeover of the education system from K-College and I am ready to get out the vote!

I’m excited to run for DNC Delegate once more, after serving as Oregon’s youngest-ever DNC Delegate in 2012. Since 2012, I’ve grown a lot in and beyond politics. I was elected as Chair of the DPO Rural Caucus in 2013, was an active member of the SCC, and ran for Benton County Commissioner. I also graduated from UO with a double-major in math and public policy, managed my family farm following my father’s death, and was named one of the 11 most-inspiring Oregonians by the Meyer Memorial Trust. As many of you know, last summer I started a PhD in public policy at Georgia Tech. I’ve been very successful in my first year at Tech, serving as an external evaluator on a $20 million NSF grant and being elected as VP of the Graduate Student Body. I’ve also continued my work with the DPO, where I’m currently serving as Rural Caucus Treasurer. After supporting Hillary Clinton in Georgia for her massive Super Tuesday win, I ask for your vote to represent Oregon’s young Hillary supporters at the DNC.


As Rural Caucus Chair, I worked closely with DPO staff to improve resources and training for legislative candidates in rural Oregon. My focus has always been on growing the county parties and building the bench outside of major cities. In my new role as Rural Caucus Treasurer, I am continuing my efforts to develop and train the next generation of rural leaders in the legislature and county parties. I am the son of an immigrant; a woman who came to this country from El Salvador at age 14, where she had been orphaned by her adoptive mother at the age of 7 (and the Japanese ambassador who left the mother of his child) because of the gruesome civil war unfolding in front of her eyes. This is my background, which propels me to do everything I possibly can to give opportunity and hope to people who typically feel hopeless.

I started my life in activism and politics at age 15 when I got involved with the Oregon United for Marriage campaign. Since then, I have worked on the Measure 88 campaign to get undocumented immigrants driver cards, Senator Merkley’s reelection campaign, and State Senator Bates’ reelection campaign, with whom I also intern. After Philadelphia, what we do across Oregon after November is key to affirming our democratic ideals within the context of an increasingly intolerant, bifurcated citizenry. Post 2012 our ability to move beyond a 30-30 impasse in the House has been vital for key legislation. In 2016, we need to expand and retain purple House and Senate Districts to counter anti-democratic approaches espoused by the presumptive nominee of the other party. The broad based tent of not only this party, but also the varied lenses throughout Oregon is vital to our social and economic growth. Connecting the smart growth policies and needs of city residents with those of rural residents, is an example.

The 2008 and 2012 elections demonstrated a next stage of democratic engagement of both supporting and holding our President accountable while also matching forces that fundamentally disagree with democracy being accessible to all.

In 2016, let us not regress either nationally or locally. Let us win – together.


First, it will be vital in Oregon to work with Democrats to align with the nominee after the Convention to defuse Primary Election tensions. Regardless of who the nominee is, I will work to unify Democrats in Oregon statewide by working with County Chairs, Precinct Committee Persons and organizational partners when engaging with voters.

Second, in competitive House and Senate races, I will work with candidates per their campaign preferences for on-the-ground canvassing or calling efforts.

My name is Michael Valentine and I am running as a delegate for Hillary Clinton in district 1 and at the state level. I supported Hillary in 2008 and again this year. I just finished my Computer Science degree about a year ago and now work as a software developer. About two years ago I got married to my husband Ryan, a little over a year after the repeal of section 3 of DOMA. I have been active in politics for a little over a decade at the local and state levels, pushing for LGBT and women’s rights, and am amazingly proud of what our state has accomplished in these areas.

I hope you will select me as a delegate so that I can be part of the presidential nomination process this year. The DNC has been a hugely impactful influence for good in this country, and I want to continue supporting it’s efforts to move forward the causes of social justice and change.


I am so very proud of our state and it’s democratic leadership. I will continue pushing for democratic leadership, because I believe it is what has made Oregon one of the most economically successful and socially conscious states in America. I will continue to help volunteer for the DNC and push to get correct information into the hands of the electorate to make informed and empathetic decisions in November.

When I was still a teenager in 2001, I moved to Oregon from the Catskill Mountains of Upstate New York with less than $300 in my pocket. After fifteen years, I could not imagine living anywhere else and I am proud to call myself an Oregonian. There are many things that make our state special. Most inspiring of these are the people and our shared values of cooperation and innovation. These principles are shown at their strongest in the progressivism of Oregon’s Democrats. We have played an important role in our state’s history and will continue to shape Oregon’s future.

As someone who served in the military during the anti-LGBT era of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” I know firsthand the positive change that comes when Democrats win. Elections have deep consequences to our country as a whole and to us as individuals. That knowledge is the source of my loyalty to this party. I bring my experience, energy, and commitment and will represent Oregon with pride in Philadelphia.


In past elections, I have volunteered with the DPO’s get-out-the-vote efforts in local and statewide races and I will do so again this year. It is important to the party that we recruit more young people to these efforts. There are opportunities to expand our majorities in the state legislature and fight back right-wing ballot measures.
