Professional Development

Lewisville Elementary provides extensive, ongoing professional development for its staff. Currently, staff members are receiving training with Foundations of Reading, which will give teachers a broader understanding of how children learn to read and the ability to meet students where they are in that learning process. Classroom teachers are also participating in a pilot program involving Response to Instruction and use of a program called Exceed to help develop Personalized Education Plans for children and monitor their progress. Teacher Assistants participate in training for Foundations of Reading. Next year, development is already planned for Foundations of Math. The Technology Department comes monthly to provide additional training and support for teachers.

Information obtained in an informal survey suggests that the majority of the staff believe that for PLC/LTM's to be more effective additional staff development is needed in the area of setting protocols and developing consistency in total process.

100% of our teachers Fully Licensed, only 2 of them are NB Certified and 50% holding Advanced Degrees.  These numbers could lead us to encourage teachers to work towards these certificates or degrees.

Discipline Incidents 2012-2013

8% school population was involved in a discipline incident. 26 of these incidents occurred in the classroom. 6 occurred in the lunchroom, 4 on the bus, 2 in the hallway, 5 in the bathroom, 2 on a field trip, 5 on the playground, 4 in the gym, and 2 in the computer lab. 21 of the incidents occurred in the month of October.

1. Reading Fluency & Comprehension are a top priority. 78% of our second graders were proficient on the End of Year DIBELS assessment. Fluency rates were also lower than expected in first grade at the end of the school year. Comprehension rates varied on End-of-Quarter tests for students in grades 3-5. Proficiency rates ranged from 46% to 84% on comprehension objectives. 82% of the students in third grade were proficient on Goal 2. 81.3% of the students in fourth grade were proficient on Goal 2, and 78.0% of the fifth grade students were proficient on Goal 2: Apply strategies and skills to comprehend text that is read, heard, and viewed.

Increasing the proficiency rate of fifth grade science on the E.O.G. 77.6% of the fifth grade students were proficient on Goal 2: Make observations and conduct investigations to build an understanding of landforms. 74.5% of the fifth grade students were proficient on Goal 3: Conduct investigations and use appropriate technology to build an understanding of weather and climate.

3. Increase the proficiency rate of math in all grade levels. 82% of the third grade students were proficient on Goal 1: Model, identify, and compute with whole numbers through 9,999. 79.6% of the third grade students were proficient on Goal 5: Recognize, determine, and represent patterns and simple mathematical relationships. 85.2% of the fourth grade students were proficient on Goal 1: Read, write, model, and compute with non-negative rational numbers. 84.4% of the fourth grade students were proficient on Goal 5: Demonstrate an understanding of mathematical relationships. 81.1% of the fifth grade students were proficient on Goal 1: Understand and compute with non-negative rational numbers. 81.0% of the fifth grade students were proficient on Goal 5: Demonstrate an understanding of patterns, relationships, and elementary algebraic representation.
