STATE BENEFITS TO GA GUARDSMEN

GA CODE 20-3-485 & 20-3-486

These Georgia Statutes establish the Georgia HERO (Helping Education for Reservists and theirOffspring) Scholarship. There is granted to each eligible student attending an approved school aGeorgia HERO scholarship grant for a maximum of four award years in the sum of $2,000.00 per

award year. Details:Scholarship grant is limited to $8,000.00.

Eligible student means a person who is enrolled as a full -time or part-time student in anapproved schoolStudents must meet residency requirements to be classified as a legal resident of Georgia andremain a citizen of the state of Georgia while receiving funds under this law.Is a member of the Georgia National Guard or a member of a reserve component of the ArmedForces of the U.S., in which member has completed at least one qualifying turn of service.

ORIs a child whose parent was a member of the Georgia National Guard and is 25 years of age or

younger. (Applicants must meet certain criteria.)

GA CODE 40-2-86.10

There shall be issued beginning in 2006 special and distinctive vehicle license plates honoringfamilies with a member serving in the military. The license plate will contain the words FamilyMember Serving upon payment of a manufacturing fee of $25.00 in addition to the regular motor

GA CODE 27-2-4 A member of the regular or reserve components of the US Armed Forces, the US Coast Guard, theGeorgia Army National Guard, or the Georgia Air National Guard who was on active duty for a periodof 90 days or longer shall be entitled to an honorary hunting and fishing license to hunt and fish in thisstate without payment of fees for a period of one year following issuance. (Applicant must provideproof of discharge from Active Duty.) For more information, visit:
