Start-up Story of Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is one of the richest women in India. She is the

founder of Biocon, a biotech company and Asia's largest insulin maker.

A successful technocrat of global standing, Ms. Shaw heads India’s

leading Biotechnology enterprise, Biocon. She is highly respected in the corporate

world and has been named among TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people in

the world. Recently, Economic Times placed her at India Inc’s top 10 most

powerful women CEO for the year 2012. Her pioneering efforts in biotechnology

have drawn global recognition both for Indian Industry and Biocon.

But the chairman and managing director attributes her success to her

go-getting nature rather than entrepreneurial spirit. Ms Mazumdar-Shaw originally

trained to become a brewer in Australia, before returning to India to follow in her

father's footsteps as a brew-master.

But she struggled to find a job on her return and recalls the industry

wasn't ready for a strong female presence. "The brewing industry is a very, very

male dominated industry" she says. "It's a male bastion." She refused to be

thwarted. "I really wanted to do something with my life," she remembers. It was

this rebellious streak that inspired her to start her own company, although she

admits the opportunity was more by chance.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw says her previous experience of failure gave

her the resilience to persevere. “Banks were very fearful of lending to a woman because I was considered high risk”

THE WORLD’S UGLIEST WOman RETaKInG THE DEFInITIOn OF B EaUTY Do you feel you're unable to follow your dreams? Do you take negativity and criticis m to heart? Does that negativity prevent you fr om moving forward in your life? Have you set goals? If so, have you accomplished any of them? Do you need to get motivated?

It’s not easy to go th rough life leading a parade of people staring at you, whispering behind your back and wondering what’s wrong with you when, from your standpoint, nothin g is wrong at all.

Let Lizzie Velasquez ins pire you! Lizzie details her life experience living with a rare syndrome that does not allow her to gain weight. Hear about the negativity, teasing and bullying she encounters on a daily basis, and how she deals with it. Despite a lifetime of difficulties both emotionally and p hysically, Lizzie accomplished all of her dreams by the age of 21. You can do it too! R are con dition:

Velasquez was just 2 pou nds when she was born about eight weeks pre mature. She grew slowly and has no body fat, so that today she weighs barely 61 pounds — ab out as much as an average 8-year-old.Doctors say she has many symptoms of neonat al progeroid syndrome, a rare disorder charact erized by premature aging and an extreme lack of fat .But none of that has stopped her fr om becoming a student at Texas State University in her hometown of Austin, hanging with her friends, and living a normal life. In fact, it’s spurred her on to become amotivational spe aker and to write a book, “Lizzie Beautiful: The Lizzie Velasquez Story”. Stay in g positive:

When Velasquez was in high school, she discovered a video of herself on YouTube that was titled “World’s Ugliest Wo man.” It had garnered millions of views. She h ad to decide in that moment whether or not she would let these cyberbullies define her. With th e support of family, Velasquez found thestreng th to channel the hatred into motivation and to rise above the cruelty. She reminds us that if we can find happiness within, and be the drivers of our own lives, the bullies will always lose.

When I finished readin g her book; “All I can say is she was brought into this world with a purpose. We are all learnin g from her. We get our strength from her. All we can do is support her and be there for her, ”Lizzie's message of tolerance/acceptance was outstanding. Lizzie is a rare find, she is exceptio nal and extraordinary - warm and caring, an d beautiful - inside and out. Lizzie is such an inspiration. Her story has given me hope that I ca n accomplish anything no matter what obstacle is put in my path. Hearing how Lizzie's overcom e challenges has given me ideas I can apply in my own life. I really thank Allah for th e wonderful experience by his beautiful creatio n.

WHAT’S SO GREAT ABOUT MICROBIOLOGY???????

I love microbiology! But why? Isn’t it just

another interesting piece of n ature? Interesting but

that’s it? Definitely not! Microbiology is one of the

most fascinating topics offered by nature.

so oLD…

First, microbiology links us to the past. But not only to the last two hundred thousands

of years like the Homo Sapiens. The ancestors of the bacteria evolved on earth already 3.5

billions of years ago. They have been the roots of the evolution and the first forms of life.

so MaNy…

Second, there are so many of them. It is estimated that about 5

nonillion bacteria exist on earth. That means 5 x

1000000000000000000000000000000 cells. They are dominating the earth…

May surViVe…

Third, microorganisms will still live on earth when the mankind is

already forgotten. They have the ability to adapt extremely fast and efficient

and may survive any disaster, which may occur some day in the future.

Of course there are many other facts why microbiology is so

fascinating but in principle these are the most important bas ic facts, which bring

me to the opinion that studying microbiology is one of the most intriguing topics.

And this is the reason why I have started my journey as MICROBIOLOGIST…

POEM

The microbe is so small

You cannot make him out at all,

But many sanguine people hope

To see him through a microscope,

His jointed tongue that lies beneath

A hundred curious rows of teeth,

His seven tufted tails with lots

Lovely pink and purple spots,

On each of which a pattern stands,

His eyebrows of a tender green,

All these have never yeen been seen,

But scientists who ought to know,

Assure us that they must be so…….

Oh! Let us never, never doubt

What nobody is sure about!

JOKES

If swimming is a good exercise to stay FIT,

Why are whales FAT ??

Why is the place in a stadium where people

SIT, called a STAND ?

Why is that everyone wants to go to

HEAVEN, but nobody wants to DIE..

Shall I say that there is racial discrimination even in chess...

As the WHITE piece is moved FIRST...

In our country,

We have FREEDOM of SPEECH,

Then why do we have TELEPHONE BILLS ?

If money doesn't grow on TREES, then

why do banks have BRANCHES ?

If you aren't supposed to DRINK and DRIVE...

Why do bars have PARKING lots?

When Dog Food Is New With Improved Taste,

Who Tests It..?

Why Do People Say "You've Been Working Like A

Dog", When Dogs Just Sit Around All Day..??

We all are living in a seriously funny world…

COMEDY

Dear friend HIV,

I am Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Asking for a promise for a life-long friendship, cherish your companionship

I was in extreme grief,

There evil homosapiens rife,

Plotted and planned to kill my life with BCG

Rifampicin and a lot of media hype,

Until you gave me a new lease of life, I don’t every you being in the limelight, I have enjoyed

it all through till a few years back, just allow me to anchor with your dear,

Then watch those homosapiens tremble with fear,

And loss and turn in sheer despair,

Let’s chart out an integrated attack,

To avenge my insult a few years back

While you play with CD4 cult I will help the lungs and kidney shut and invites friends

Cryptococcus and herpes to do the rest .Homosapiens did welcome the new millennium

with the BANG.

Instead let in shame their heads hang.

Because, if we work hands hang.

Not far off is our victory grand.

For they will soon be extinct from this land.

MY HIJAB, MY IDENTITY

I wondered the early Muslims ability, The command came from the incomparable majesty, Despite series of persecution and hostility. O hijab, the garment of beauty, The enhancer of the quality of my personality The essence of my reality, The preserver of my dignity and integrity. O hijab, the harbinger of morality, The redefiner of my nobility, The assurance of my tranquility, humility and security We’re discussing the hijab of piety, Lets display a sense of responsibility. O hijab the protector of my chastity, The nourisher of my purity, Without hijab no woman would have been a liability. Alhamdulillah, it gives liberty, Hijab makes you feel like a celebrity, All admirers says your majesty Alhaja haja the queen of sanity. O hijab for entire humanity, Am enjoying lots of immunity, Knowledge of it is my lost property. All plans against it just in vanity, Unto Islam I pledge my loyalty, I and my hijab like blood in the body till infinity, No hijab no eternity, Know hijab know entirety.

Do you know???

The soft plastic headphones used on airplanes create a warm, moist

environment in the ear canal that is ideal for breeding bacteria. Wearing the

headphones for just an hour will increase the bacteria in your ear 700 times

Researchers have received a 250 million year old bacterium, Bacillus

permians that was discovered in salt crystals .

Diamonds are thought to be made from carbon & dead bacteria.

Researchers have discovered bacteria that live & thrive in clouds..

Microbes from Mars have travelled to earth via Martian rocks that were

strewn into space by meteor collisions.

Genetically altered bacteria can be used to create an environment on Mars

that is similar to Earth’s environment.

The organism Bacillus anthracis , which causes anthrax, is very easy to grow

and has its own protective mechanism. When dried, the organism produces fine,

powdery spores that can survive for long periods. When these spores are distributed,

they re -germinate in moist, nutritious environment, example, the human lung -where

they produce toxins that can relatively kill the host quickly. So it is used as a let hal tool

for terrorists.

I’M YOUR DISEASE

Sucked like a vacuum I held my fear,

built up anger you want to hold near.

Shaking and trembling is what I feel,

purging my thoughts is how I heal.

Feelings of emptiness that have no depth,

disappointment climb the walls inside my chest.

You've lied to me all these years, holding in the pain that has caused so many tears.

You think your strong but I make you weak,

I know the truth your looking to seek.

You thought you had control over me all these years;

I'm your friend when you looked into your mirror.

You think you can forget me and run and hide;

I'm the only one who has stuck by your side.

I've given you comfort and relief, why now do you treat me like a thief.

I've stole from you your sense of

pride, not letting you see that you are beautiful on the inside.

I've come to steal your strength and health;

don't look to me to give you wealth.

You've been fighting this battle all alone, haven't you

figured it out that you can't do this on your own.

This has been our secret for so long; do you have the courage to make you strong?

I'm the monster you won't admit,

afraid that now you'll have to commit.

Two cells of E.coli were wandering slowly

Down the gastrointestinal tract

An F+ was he, an F- was she,

And their memories were bound to attract.

Now the dainty F- was born in a sinus

Where her members seldom trespass,

But the brawnt F+ was spawned in some

pus, And produced both acid and gas.

A kiss he had stolen, down deep in the colon;

“Don’t touch me”, she said, or I’ll scream!

I have no protection and an F+ infection

Would spoil my maidenly dream.

So the poor lonely fella withdrew his

flagella And worshipped her from after;

“At least”, he said, ”wait, till I can

mutate And come back an HFR?

QUOTES “The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious - the fundamental emotion which stands

-ALBERT EINSTEIN “Time is a drug. Too much of it kills you.”

-TERRY PRATCHETT “Science is not only compatible with spirituality; it is a profound source of spirituality.”

-CARL SAGAN “It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be

without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wa ve pressure.”

-ALBERT EINSTEIN “Science investigates; religion interprets. Science gives man knowledge, which is power; religion gives

man wisdom, which is control. Science deals mainly with facts; religion deals mainly with values. The

two are not rivals.”

-MARTIN LUTHER KIND JR. “We are stuck with technology when what we really want is just stuff that works.”

-DOUGLES ADAMS “The scientist is not a person who gives the right answers; he's one who asks the right questions.”

-CLAUDE LEVI-STRAUSS “Science, my lad, is made up of mistakes, but they are mistakes which it is useful to make, because they

lead little by little to the truth.”

-JULES VERNE “Scientists have calculated that the chances of something so patently absurd actually existing are

MICROBE CONTEST

Microbes decided to have a contest, To decide who amongst them was the best. They assembled together into a team, Staphylococcus aureus leading the way for the Gram +ve, E.coli doing the honours for the Gram negative. Entamoeba was the choreographer, Ascaris the chief guest, Judges included Fungi, Cyanobacteria and the rest. Sponsored by Bacteriophage, wishing them all the very best, Agar-agar the official carrier of the test. Came in E.coli on endo agar with a metallic sheen, Staphylococcus aureus could do nothing but on crutches leen, Motile vibrio decided to grow, But equally fluorescent Psuedomonas gave him the glow. Then entered Bacillus, the temperature soared, Enterobacter felt uneasy, the audience roared. Streptococci arranged themselves in chains, Out came Corneybacterium with its palisade. Salmonella on TSI showed its hues, This gave Mycobacterium the blues. Then came in the estuarine beauty, The orange pigmented Haloarchael cutie With its growth at high levels of Nacl, Whoelse could the judges choose to ride, The chariot of fame, the eubacteria to tame?
