Starogard Gdański is located in the north of Poland.

The town lies on the Wierzyca river and it is the capital of Kociewie region.

There live about 50 000 people. The first reference concerning Starogard is year 1198

when the settlement became a gift for monastic knights.

We can see a lot of beautiful monuments and different attractions here, for example:

- the town square

-St. Catherine’s church

-St. Matthew’s church

-the town hall

-the synagogue

- the town park

The town square with the historic townhouses was built in the 19th and 20th centuries. Townhouses are colourful and elegant. We can find the buildings in the city centre. Everyone likes to spend time here.

In the middle of the square we can see the town hall, which was rebuilt a few times. However, it remained its gothic symbols.

St. Matthew Church is the oldest church in town. We can see a big fresco from the 15th century there. It is the Final Judgment (the final and eternal judgment by God of every nation). The concept is found in all the Canonical gospels, particularly the Gospel of Matthew.

St. Catherine Church is the highest building in town. From 1577 this building was used by Lutherans, but then - in 1802 - the temple was rebuilt by Catholics.

The synagogue was built in 1849 as a Jewish house of prayer. The walls were decorated with frescoes like animals or zodiac signs. After World War II, this building was rebuilt and started to be used as a shop.

If you need peace and quiet, you should go to the town park. It is a beautiful, spacious area where you can take a rest or spend time with friends or family.
