SEPTEMBER 22, 2019 TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

A VIEW FROM THE PEW

Gospel Reflection

The Gospel is from St. Luke 16:1-13. These words of Christ warning those who would follow him on the road to heaven not to become the slaves of earthly things are applicable to all of us. Most of us may feel that this warning is for millionaires and business mag-nates. Our Lord didn't say so. There was not a single millionaire in his audience. He meant it for all of us, for what he warned against was not the just acquisition of this world's goods but their unjust acquisition, and the dishonest use of them when they were justly

acquired.

Two resolutions worthy of your serious consideration today in relation to earthly goods are: Never let them take up all your time. You have a far more serious purpose in life. Give it a little more thought and enterprise than you have been doing. Secondly, be grateful to God for what He has given you in this life. You might like to have a lot more, but God knows best. Work honestly and be generous with what you have. You are serving God, not money. God will be waiting for you where there is no currency, and where the one bank account that matters will be the good use that you made of your time and your share of this

world's goods while you were alive.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER

Stewardship of Talent

When we speak of talent, people often do not

know what to think. What are talents? How do

we know what our talents are? What does it

mean to be a good steward of talent?

Talents are things we naturally do well, like

innately relating to people with ease, organizing

information to make it useful, or rallying others

to get things done. Good stewards of talent not

only recognize these natural patterns in their

lives, they learn to use them well, and they read-

ily offer them in their daily interactions at

home, work, parish, and world.

Third Order of Mary

SCHOOL NEWS

Mary, Star of the Sea Early Learning Center

USDA MEAL SERVICE PROGRAM

Mary, Star of the Sea ELC has participated in the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) since 1989. The Office of Child Nutrition Pro-gram, under the auspices of the State of Hawaii Department of Education, monitors organizations who participate in the USDA program. As a result, the ELC receives federal funds to offset its food cost for meals (breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack). These savings are passed on to our families by keeping our tuition rates reasonable (all meal costs are included in our tuition). In accordance with Federal law and U.S. Dept. of Agriculture pol-icy, this institution is prohibited from discrimination on the basis of race,

color, national origin, sex or disability.

Mary, Star of the Sea School

“A strong foundation matters” “The way a child discovers the world constantly replicates the way science began. You start to notice what's around you, and you get very curious about how things work. How things interrelate. It's as

simple as seeing a bug that intrigues you.” author unknown

Did you know that we retain 75% of what we do compared to 5% of what we hear and 10% of what we read? At Mary, Star of the Sea School, we believe in an active learning experience. Every child learns differently; therefore, the true key to success for students is to be sure they are engaged and provided with the opportunity to build knowledge through exploration, experience, and discussion.

MSOS Parish families are always welcome to visit us and learn more about our school. We are currently accepting applications for the 2019-20 school year. Applications and financial aid information are available on our website and front office.
