God reveals the identity of Christ at His baptism in the river Jordan, and then Jesus, with the help of his mother, reveals His divine being in the turning of water to wine at the wedding at Cana. He preaches in His hometown, and we (inish the season of Epiphany with the Trans(iguration of Jesus on the mountaintop. And then we turn our faces to Jerusalem and all that lies in wait for Jesus on his journey to the cross. We begin the season of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Lent offers us a time to re(lect deeply on the things that attempt to separate us from God. It is a time to repent, make sacri(ices, and offer our hearts and minds to God for atonement and forgiveness and mer- cy. We make our way to the cross with Jesus, experience His betrayal and all the fear that surrounds His very being as people lie in wait to get rid of Him. Lent gives us a time to prepare to experience His violent death and His glorious resurrection. We cannot experi- ence the cruci(ixion without claiming the hope of eternal life promised in the resurrection. Lent is also a time to examine the gifts God has given you and how you are using those gifts to give thanks and glorify God. We will gather on Wednesday nights to share a sim- ple meal and learn more about the opportunities for outreach as a community. A more detailed schedule will be in the e-news and the Sunday bulletins. On Sunday mornings, the adult formation offering from 9:15-10:15 will explore the relationship between sci- ence and religion. During Holy Week, we will once again worship with our brothers and sisters at our surrounding Episcopal churches in the northeast area of San Antonio. May we walk the journey to the cross and the empty tomb together.
