2013
From the Grand Knight
Brother Knights,
As the weather continues to im-
prove and many of us are spending
our days fishing, watching baseball,
and firing up the grill, let us not
forget who blessed us with all of
this beauty. Let us not forget who
is responsible for the warm sun
on our backs and the green trees
in the wilderness. It is our Lord
who has chosen to bless us with
such great fortunes to enjoy this
spring season. And while we
should take advantage of this blos-
soming season, we should also
seek to grant good fortune to
those who are not able to enjoy
some of the comforts that we
have grown to take for granted.
As the flowers bloom and the
leaves turn green with the energy
of spring, may the Holy Spirit fill
each of us with the energy to vol-
unteer for Charity, to bond to-
gether in Unity, and to look after
our fellow brother’s in Fraternity.
My brother Knights we must stay
active and not grow too comfy in
the leisure’s of our society. Check
your newsletter for the dates and
times of upcoming events and if
possible volunteer.
Fraternally Yours,
Ron
Chaplain’s Message
“Taking God On Vacation”
Most of us undoubtedly have made
some kind of vacation plans for the
summer. This is of course a good and
healthy thing to do. Vacations are
necessary for us to rest, renew, and
replenish ourselves for the daily rou-
tines of life, work, and profession. I
hope that all of you will in some way
be able to take a vacation.
When we take a vacation we usually
make sure that we make the right
plans and pack the right things. In all
of this, we need to remember to take
God with us. There are different
ways that we can do so.
One way is of course to be sure and
take a Bible with us. Beginning and
ending each day with the Word of
God enables us to focus on the pres-
ence of God among us as we rest and
unwind.
We should also set aside some time
each day for personal devotion. The
Liturgy of the Hours, a Rosary, a Lit-
any, a Novena, or perhaps praying the
Psalms. Most Catholic publications
and periodicals offer daily devotional
booklets that are a very good thing to
make use of while on vacation.
Many of us like to catch up on read-
ing while on vacation. Spiritual read-
ing is a very good thing to include in
our reading. Perhaps we could read
the biography of a favorite saint or the
story of one’s struggle with faith and
how they overcame it. The parables
are a very wonderful way to reflect on
life’s daily challenges to our faith.
If we take in performing arts, muse-
ums, or nature walks while on vaca-
tion we should look for the gifts of
God to individuals, society and nature
in these things. In essence we should
try to experience things while on va-
cation through the eyes of God and
see His hand in them.
Most importantly, we cannot forget
to nourish ourselves with the Eucha-
rist by participating in Mass on Sun-
day and if possible, daily in the local
parish.
More than anything else, I strongly
recommend that in addition to vaca-
tion, my Brother Knights endeavor to
make a Retreat. This is fundamental
to our spiritual renewal. It should
also be included in our summer plans
or at some point during the year.
Whatever you choose to do, wher-
ever you choose to go this summer, it
is my hope that you enjoy a summer
that is an enjoyable and safe one.
Moreover, may it include the pres-
ence of God and the guiding assis-
tance of Mary, Star of the Sea.
Father Anthony J. Legarski,
Chaplain
Remember to keep in your thoughts
and prayers all brother knights and
their families that have passed away.

“One of our founding goals: to
protect widows”
As a member of this council,
you know how important spouses
can be to the charitable works of
the Order. If you’re married, your
wife is probably involved in a few
of the many events that happen
each fraternal year. This support
adds great value and impact to
what a council can achieve.
When the Order was founded
in 1882, Father Michael J.
McGivney and the other brave
men were setting out to protect
Catholic families, but especially
wives and children. We know to-
day this is done through our insur-
ance products which are designed
with that goal in mind. One specif-
ic policy rider that you may not
know about is called Spousal
Waiver of Premium. This rider is
unique to the Knights of Columbus
philosophy of helping our widows.
This rider is available on most
permanent and Discoverer plans
purchased at standard rates by a
member and his wife on the same
day. When both spouses apply, the
rider provides for waiver of premi-
ums on the spouse’s contract in the
event of the insured’s death. Best
of all, for members and spouses
ages 18 to 60, this waiver can be
added for no charge. The rider
stays in effect until the spouse at-
tains age 65 or certain other trig-
gering events occur.
Our products are designed with
your needs and budget in mind.
With a solid portfolio of life insur-
ance, long-term care, disability in-
come and retirement products, the
Knights of Columbus can help you
meet all of your financial goals. To
learn more about these solutions,
