This presentation has been created in order to educate teachers about the purpose of the Texas Chart and Texas Long Range Plan (2006-2020).

The Texas Long Range Plan ensures that each student will receive 21st Century technology skills before the year 2020. These skills include manipulating software, using different forms of technology such as scanners, digital cameras, etc. Students will also know how to use the internet as a research tool as well as share information, resources and materials. The Texas Star Chart was created to help, districts, administrators, and teachers gage progress towards technology goals created by the Texas Long Range Plan. Students must have access to technology, use research based strategies, and be able to communicate with a diversity of audiences.

A “one size fits all” approach does not work for every student. Students must be fully engaged in learning in order for it beneficial

Learning includes critical thinking, global and social studies, and problem solving. This learning must take place in authentic settings and encourage group work.

All educators should integrate technology into all content areas.

Graduate from educator preparation programs that prepare teachers to work with various forms of technology.

Develop a learning environment that is flexible, fosters collaboration amongst students, and utilizes various forms of technology.

Administration and instructional leaders use data when making decisions.

Create, implement, and monitor a technology plan that ensures each student will acquire the 21st Century Skills needed to survive in this ever changing world.
