From the desk of Mr. Sefcik and Mrs. Peters…
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Students in grades 3-8 will be participating in the IRA (Illinois Readiness
Assessment) formally known as PARCC, April 1-12. The assessments will
cover English language arts and math. The IRA assessment aligns to the
Illinois Learning Standards and focuses on critical thinking, concept
mastery, and writing skills. There are 3 tests for both English language arts
and math and students will have up to 110 minutes to complete each unit,
though many will finish in much less time.
The IRA assessments serve as an “educational GPS system” assessing
students’ current performance, and pointing the way to what students need
to learn to be ready for the next grade level and, by high school graduation,
for college and/or career.
You and your child are encouraged to take a look at the practice tests to see
how the tests are aligned to classroom work and to see the types of reading,
math, and writing questions your child will be answering. For more
information regarding the Illinois Readiness Assessments, visit
www.isbe.net.
Students in grades 5th and 8th will also be taking the Illinois Science
Assessment March 18-22.
Please encourage your child to get plenty of rest, eat a healthy breakfast and
lunch, and to use their best test taking skills during these assessments.
Thank you for the ongoing support of your child’s education!

Dear Parents/Guardians,
“Erin’s Law” requires that child sexual abuse prevention education is provided in all Illinois public schools for children in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grades. The law is named after childhood sexual assault survivor, Erin Merryn.
District 114’s mental health professionals will provide students in grades 6-8 with age appropriate knowledge and skills to protect themselves. Additional information about Erin’s Law may be found at http://www.erinslaw.org. Please contact us if you have any questions, or if you need information about sexual abuse resources.

Our neighbors to the northeast (GCHS) heard about the great work our students are doing with the Culver’s Coffee and Custard Cart and asked how they could participate so these amazing students, along with their teachers, opened a drive thru! How cool is that? It’s super cool!
