P A R I S H C A L E N D A R MASS INTENTIONS Any meetings on St. Ann Parish campus must be cleared through the parish of ice and scheduled on the calendar. If your ministry has a meeting, please wear masks out of Christian charity for the good of others around you. If you have fever or any symptoms at all, please STAY HOME.
With You I Am Well Pleased!
One of the favorite ministries for me as
a priest is to celebrate the sacrament of
Baptism. The celebration is always a
joyful occasion, not only for the family
of the baptized, but also for the whole
church as the family of God. The most
important part of the sacrament is the
moment the minister pours water on the head of the child,
saying: “I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of
the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” Being baptized in the
Holy Trinity, the newly baptized truly becomes an adopted
child of God.
Baptism is the foundation of the Christian life. It is the
gateway through which we enter into the family of God. In
that family, Christ Jesus is the Son of God by nature and
we are God’s children by adoption.
The rite of Baptism gives us two options: either full
immersion into water or pouring water on the head.
Immersion is preferred because it conveys the meaning of
our participation in the death and resurrection of Christ.
Water gives life but also causes death. When someone is
immersed into water, he or she has to hold his breath.
Holding breath is the image of death. When the baptized
rises again above water, he or she could breathe again - the
breath of a life. Being baptized by water and the Holy
Spirit, we are reborn into a new life - a life in the Spirit.
In today’s gospel, Christ Jesus was baptized in the water of
the Jordan River. Why did Jesus ask John the Baptist to
baptize Him? The Lord of heaven and earth requested a
sinful man to baptize him. For sure the Lord Jesus had no
sin to be cleansed. By immersing into the water of Jordan,
He cleansed the water so that from that moment on, those
who are baptized will be cleansed from sins. The spotless
Lamb of God was immersed into the water so that He
could take away our sins.
After Jesus had been baptized, “Heaven was opened and
the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a
dove. And a voice came from heaven, "You are my
beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” Where else in
the Bible could you find the Father, the Son, and the Holy
Spirit together alongside the water? The very first page of
the Bible. The first line of the book of Genesis says: “In
the beginning, when God created the heavens and the
earth … a wind from God swept over the face of the
waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”. At the very
dawn of creation the Father said the Word and the Spirit
breathed on the waters, making them the wellspring of
all holiness. That was the old creation. The sacrament of
Baptism, established by the Lord, is the beginning of new
creation. In the old creation, God the Father created all
things through His Word. In the new creation, the Father
makes all things new with His Word which is now made
flesh.
When you and I are baptized, we are reborn into life in
the Spirit; we are made part of the new creation. We
need to live out our vocation of being God’s children so
that the Father also says to us: “You are my beloved sons
and daughters, with you I am well pleased.”

St. Ann Parish will celebrate our 50th Anniversary with a special Mass on May 2, 2021 with Archbishop Gregory Aymond as the Chief Celebrant. As we make plans for this very special event, we need your help. Please send in any photos or stories/memories you may have from the past 50 years. If you received your Sacraments at St. Ann, please send us your name, which Sacrament, and the year. We particularly want to know of anyone who received ALL of their Sacraments and successive generations who have received their Sacraments at St. Ann. You can email these to [email protected] or bring them to the parish office to be scanned. Please mark the date on your calendar and follow us for additional announcements.
Consecration to St. Joseph
As you may know, this Year of Grace 2021 has been dedicated as the Year of the Eucharist by Archbishop Aymond and the Year of St. Joseph by Pope Francis. Throughout the year, we will pay special attention to the importance of the Eucharist and St. Joseph in our Catholic faith. Of these two, you may be asking yourself why St. Joseph, as we know so little about him. He is most prominent during the Christmas season, but after that, we rarely hear his name again unless he is referenced on feast days of our Blessed Mother or on his feast day, March 19th. Despite the fact that he is rarely mentioned, he is one of the most powerful intercessors in our church, especially for those who are dying. There is so much we can learn from his silent life. Late last year, Fr. Donald Calloway, MIC released a book entitled Consecration to St. Joseph: The Wonders of Our Spiritual Father. As the titles says, it is a way to consecrate yourself to St. Joseph. It involves 33 days of prayer in preparation for the consecration. It is a commitment to pray the prayers and readings each of the 33 days with the consecration occurring on the 33rd day. These prayers can take about 20-30 minutes each day. The feast of St. Joseph is celebrated by the church on March the 19th. It would be the ideal day for the Consecration celebration to take place. I encourage all of our parishioners to join this Consecration to St. Joseph movement here in our parish. I am making a special appeal to the men of our parish, the Men’s Club and the Knights of Columbus and all who are involved in the ministries of our parish. I make this appeal to the young men of our parish as well, as you are or will be the spiritual fathers of your families who can rely on the intercession of St. Joseph throughout your lives. March 19, 2021, the Feast of St. Joseph will be the day to make our consecration to St. Joseph. This means the 33 days to consecration will begin on February 15th. It is imperative to order a copy of this book now if you wish to start on the 15th. You can order your books or get them at your favorite bookstore or online. Please sign up at the Transcontinental entrance or online at our website if you want to be in prayer with those of our parish who are making the consecration to St Joseph. More details to follow in our announcements on Sundays and on our website. (Bookstore suggestions: St Paul’s Bookstore, Mule’s gifts and books, and the Catholic bookstore in New Orleans). St. Joseph pray for us.

The Cate-Corner Each week we will highlight a specific article from the Catechism
of the Catholic Church.
“The unique and altogether singular event of the Incarna on of the
Son of God does not mean that Jesus Christ is part God and
part man, nor does it imply that he is the result of a
confused mixture of the divine and the human. He
became truly man while remaining truly God.
Jesus Christ is true God and true man. During
the first centuries, the Church had to
defend and clarify this truth of faith
against the heresies that
falsified it.” (CCC 464)
Beginning on the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord, January 10, 2021
Beginning on the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord, January 10, 2021, the local Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, will enter into the Year of the Eucharist, a time of renewal, healing, and communion. This year is dedicated to helping all of us, clergy, religious, and laity, grow in our relationship with Christ in the Eucharist.
We begin this important year on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord because Baptism marks the beginning of our initiation into Jesus Christ, a lifelong journey toward union with Christ and one another. The Eucharist is communion with God. Christ nourishes us with his very Body and Blood so that we can be joined more closely to him and to all humanity.
Throughout this year, we will join with Catholics around the world to call upon the prayers and patronage of St. Joseph to help us more fully understand the meaning of the parts of the Mass, the theology of the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, and the obligation we have as Catholics to participate in Mass on Sunday.
As the universal church observes a special Year of St. Joseph as proclaimed by the Holy Father, we in the Archdiocese of New Orleans call upon St. Joseph’s powerful intercession to bring us closer to Jesus in the Eucharist.
To Register for this event, use this link: https://nds.edu/els/
Special Initiatives During the Year of the Eucharist: The Vigil Project Partnership The Archdiocese of New Orleans is partnering with The Vigil Project (thevigilproject.com) to bring exciting opportunities for parish evangelization and events as well as planning for a large youth gathering in the late fall of 2021. Twelve Part Explanation of the Mass Throughout the year, clergy will preach on the various parts of the Mass once a month to help Catholics enter more deeply into the mystery of the Mass. Archdiocesan Nights of Exposition and Adoration All church parishes in the Archdiocese of New Orleans will offer Nights of Eucharistic Exposition, Adoration, and Recon-ciliation on March 24 and September 15, 2021. Year of the Eucharist Art Contest Adults and youth will be encouraged to participate in a special art contest on "The Power of the Eucharist".
