Standing out
We believe that the switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources is the revolution of this century, transfor-ming our economies, our societies and our impact on our environment. Renewable energy is no longer just ecolo-gical, it is now cheaper and quicker to set up than other sources.
As one of the most dynamic companies in the field, Neoen has been playing a significant role in this revolution since the company was founded in 2008.
Our success stems from our business model: we are an independent, financially sturdy energy specialist with local operations. We have a long-term outlook, developing and operating our own power plants.
We use natural sources of energy - sun, wind and biomass - to produce electricity.
Xavier BARBAROPresident of Neoen
Our large-scale storage solution smooths out the supply from variable sources such as the sun and the wind, meaning reliability is not an issue. We operate globally, innovating and investing in Europe, Australia, America, Africa and the Middle East.

In the renewable energy sector, Omnes Capital is a pioneer, having launched its first fund Capénergie in 2006. Since then, the company has made more than 30 invest-ments in the wind, solar, hydroelectric and biomass sectors in France and in Europe for an equivalent of 1,500 MW of production capacity.
Omnes Capital is one of the signatories of the Principles for Responsible Investment of the UN. These principles call for the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues in the investment process as well as in the daily internal practices of the company and its employees. These principles are present in a section of the initial due diligence and the shareholders’ agreement, to identify ESG risks and to offer improvement options to respond to it.
With a long-term commitment to the firms it works with, Omnes Capital always takes up a position on the board of directors and is therefore directly involved in their develop-ment strategy.
Alongside national and regional public policies, the voca-tion of Bpifrance is to support small and medium-sized companies from the moment they begin operating, to their Initial Public Offering, providing credit, guarantees and funds.
As a French public sector financial institution, Bpifrance helps boost growth, increase competitiveness and contri-butes to creating an environment in which businesses can thrive. Thanks to an 18-billion-euro budget, Bpifrance is a power-ful, effective stakeholder, catering for all stages of bu-siness development.

A four-pronged approach
Our business is based on the design, finance, construction project management and long-term operations of power plant projects. As an independent electricity producer, our integrated business model enhances our control and therefore the quality of our activity.
Development and Design
The technical, economic and environmental feasibility of each project is determined during the development stage via surveys of potential, soil and environmental impact. A designated project manager liaises with the parties concerned, including residents and authorities.
Finance
We finance our projects with a combination of capital and long-term borrowing. Our policy is to involve local finan-cial institutions in our projects. Our own capital increases regularly and constitutes a solid foundation enabling us to make long-term investments.
Construction Project Management
As a responsible construction project manager, we are directly involved in the construction work for the power plants we operate. We ensure that each plant is a sustainable asset, with a life span of several decades. As far as possible, we use the services of local industry.
Operations
As an independent energy producer, we are particularly concerned with the productivity of our plants. Our specialist team is responsible for supervision and maintenance. In some markets, we also sell electricity directly to national distributors.
14 15
Solar power is part of our core business and is fast becoming a major source of energy in Europe and beyond. Our expertise applies to local projects supplying electricity to a few thousand homes, as well as to power plants that meet the needs of sprawling cities.
Wind power, currently one of the most cost-effective renewable energy sources, is another important business line. We own several wind farms and manage an array of projects in the field, particularly in Australia, where we are setting new benchmarks in terms of competitive pricing.
Storage is a vital element in smoothing the intermittence of natural energy sources, and in balancing the power supply to the grids to which plants are connected. We are pioneers in storage technology, having teamed up with Tesla to set up the world’s largest lithium-ion battery sto-rage facility in Hornsdale, Australia.
With an “act local” strategy such as ours, biomass, a source of both heat and electricity, was an obvious avenue to explore. We generate both energies in conjunction with steam generation for industrial use in a plant producing 15 MW of electric power and 50 MW heat-generated power.

“In 2012, the Neoen team went scouting for business in Australia. As it was our first time there, we enlisted the help of an investment agency and ended up holding 60 meetings in seven cities! The trip was a great success and the beginning of our adven-ture in a very promising market. As the first Neoen representative on the field, I helped set up the Australian subsidiary. Two years later, our team won a 100 MW wind power project as part of the Australian Capital Territory tender process. Our Australian operation has grown considerably since then and we aim to top 1,000 MW by 2020. I am now responsible for Neoen’s solar development in Australia. Since I joined Neoen in France, I have been lucky enough to work on all aspects of a renewable energy project (marketing, technical, financial and legal) and to learn from specialists in each field. My current role involves business development in Australia, forging ties and setting up partnerships with local companies. I meet people from all backgrounds and walks of life and take pleasure in training the up-and-coming genera-tions.”
At Neoen we value our employees and endeavour to bring out the best in each. Chris Léonard’s experience is a case in point. Having started as a project manager in France he now heads solar development in Australia.

A unique corporate culture
Our corporate culture is based on four values that define and guide all our actions, on all levels: our relations with our customers, public authorities, business partners, sup-pliers and shareholders. Shared by all staff, these values form the basis of our corporate identity.
AudacityWe believe we can become a world leader in renewable energy. We have the audacity to operate globally, imagi-ning, designing and implementing competitive, effective energy solutions.
IntegrityWe operate with integrity, whatever we do, whenever and wherever we do it. We work with partners who abide by the same rules. Our ethical approach is an asset in our worldwide opera-tions.
Commitment We uphold all our commitments, internal and external. We believe in hard work and take pleasure in seeing a good job well done.
Esprit de corpsWe are loyal to each other and form a close-knit team. We are proud of our company, our goals and our accom-plishments.
People power
18 19
People and the planet
We take our role in local development very seriously and support social and community-based projects. To us, responsible action is part and parcel of promoting access to renewable energy.
Environmental considerations are always high on our agenda, wherever we set up our operations. We always consider the effect our plants will have on their surroundings, including the landscape. The flora and fauna affected by our power plants are an integral part of our planning. Environmental protection is included at the design stage.
El Salvador In El Salvador, a significant share of the revenue generated by the photovoltaic plant Neoen operates in La Paz goes towards social development projects via the social invest-ment fund for local development. The fund is used to pay for roads, water and electricity supplies and for renovating school buildings.
Empower GenerationEmpower Generation is a social enterprise in Nepal, founded in 2011. Neoen has been contributing to the en-deavour since 2014, helping women to distribute clean energy solutions to their communities.
The Empower Generation network, made of 12 micro- enterprises, managed by 16 women in 10 districts, reaches the most remote populations, those of the “last mile”.
Thanks to the establishment of Empower Generation in Nepal, more than 182,000 people receive cleaner and safer electricity, provided by solar lamps.
The devastating earthquakes of 2015 confirmed the ne-cessity for action. Empower Generation’s long-term vision and hands-on approach is helping to rebuild a future for the one of the poorest countries in the world thanks to renewable energy.
By using environmentally-friendly technology we offset the impact of our buildings. Our commitment to environmental protection extends to our suppliers. Good practises are part of our selection pro-cess. We also perform regular checks and audits to ensure that the technology we use generates as little waste as pos-sible and that our suppliers comply with applicable regu-lations.

The most powerful solar farm in Europe
Daring to be the biggest
In 2012, Neoen launched a solar farm project in Cestas, near Bordeaux, on a total area of 250 hectares. Final autho-risations were obtained in 2013, and Neoen then conceived with its industrial partners Eiffage, Schneider Electric and Krinner, a power plant that would be the highest capacity (300 MW), the most efficient and one of the most competi-tive in the world, with a selling price inferior to that of Euro-pean nuclear reactors of new generation.
Innovation, optimisation, integration
At a megawatt per hectare, productivity at the Cestas plant is outstanding. Twice as much as most solar farms. The lightweight support structures face eastwards and westwar-ds to take full advantage of sunlight.
The solar panels are made of high-performance polycrys-talline silicon. Environmental impact is lessened by foundations screwed directly into the ground with no need for concrete.
Exemplary behaviour in terms of the environment
The Cestas project is part of a wider aim to promote the reliability and exemplarity of renewable energy as a source of electricity.
Neoen offset the environmental impact of the plant, even planning the building work around the reproduction cycles of the flora and fauna. Special care was taken to avoid destroying biodiversity and the impact on the visual as-pects of the landscape was also minimised.

The largest storage plant in the world
Aiming high
The Hornsdale wind farm in the Jamestown region of South Australia, has a total combined power of 309 MW, installed in three stages, and 100 MW of battery storage. Standing 200km to the north of Adelaide, the farm is directly linked to the National Electricity Market grid.
The storage project, the result of a partnership with Ame-rican company Tesla was selected among ninety others in a government call for tenders. The lithium-ion batteries ensure a balance of power and supply the region with cheaper electricity.
Leading by example
In the 2014 call for tenders, Australian Capital Territory (ACT) was not just looking for an electricity supplier, it was seeking a company that shared its fundamental values, with which to set up a renewable energy training centre in Canberra. Based on our track record, ACT was convinced that Neoen could turn a local operation into a nationwide wind-farm project.
A nationwide goal
Neoen expansion in Australia goes beyond the wind farm in Hornsdale. Wind farm and solar projects amounting to 2,000 MW are currently being developed throughout the country. Neoen is investing in electricity storage to offer a re-newable, competitive energy supply to local industries, especially agriculture and mining.
From the start (2015), Neoen adopted its usual stance of transparency and dialogue to ensure that the project would be a success for all involved:
• For residents around the Hornsdale plant, we mitigated the effects of the noise generated by the power plant.
• Neoen is involved in the Hornsdale Wind Farm Commu-nity Fund, whose objective is to fund initiatives suppor-ting the local development of the region of Jamestown
• Neoen goes even further by investing in the “Renewable Energy Skills Centre for Excellence” of the Canberra Institute of Technology, whose purpose is to speed the knowledge, development and growth of the renewable energy industry: technical training and professional certificates; creation and expansion of a network of players from the industry; fostering of the infrastruc-ture enabling a practical and theoretical learning of the industry practices.
Hornsdale
Neoen is developing and operating several ground-breaking projects in Australia, including Hornsdale, home to a wind farm and to the world’s largest lithium-ion battery.
