Research Question• How do the scores of the standardized tests
in each of the three rural counties listed compare to the overall average of New York state?
• The data used is from the counties surrounding me: Lewis, Madison and Oneida
Literature Review• Everyone in the school setting has to work together to get the students at
grade level according to the state standards---including the Librarian.• From a survey:
– 22% said increased testing had helped the performance of their local schools– 36% believe testing is hurting school performance– 41% say it has made no difference
• The public is becoming more doubtful about using standardized testing for teacher evaluation
• The PDK/Gallup survey found that just 41% of respondents who had heard of the standards believe they will make the United States more competitive in the world
• 47% percent of respondents in the Associated Press poll said they believe the standards will improve the quality of education.
**From this and my observations in the schools in the counties I looked into, I predict that these rural counties, will have more students receiving passing grades than those in New York State alltogether

Data Sources Used
• The Data used for this project was found on the NYSed.gov website
• This included data from grades 3-8 in both Mathematics and ELA in New York State
Data Analysis• Step 1:
Copied the Data from the NTSed.gov website and pasted it into an Excel spreadsheet
• Step 2: Sort through the Data to
find only 3rd Grade ELA• Step 3:
Highlight the data that you are going to use
• Step 4: Create a pivot table using only the counties that I wanted to look into
• Step 5: Create a Bar chart to analyze the data

• Step 6: Add the two columns (1+2) (3+4) together, using the data from the pivot table to easier compare the counties
