LEVEL 3

1. INTRODUCTION

A hairdresser is a person whose occupation is to cut or style hair in order to change or maintain a person's image. This is achieved using a combination of hair colouring, haircutting, and hair texturing techniques.

Hair dressing is one branch in the art of beauty. This recitation shaped field theory and manipulative skills. This course is structured so as to be flexible, dynamic and futuristic. This course is supplying coaches with knowledge and skills to improve the quality of life principles. In addition, this course should foster student interest and propensity to become self-sufficient individuals, skilled, noble, responsible and sensitive to the contemporary technological developments. Knowledge, skills and attitude formation through this course allows coaches to communicate and interact impressive and may make a decision for the purpose.

The NOSS is developed for various occupational areas. Candidates for certification must be assessed and trained at certain levels to substantiate competencies. Below is a guideline of each NOSS Level as defined by the Department of Skills Development, Ministry of Human Resources, Malaysia.

Malaysia Skills Certificate Level 1:Competent in performing a range of (Operation and Production Level) varied work activities, most of which are routine and predictable.

Malaysia Skills Certificate Level 2:

Competent in performing a significant

(Operation and Production Level)range of varied work activities, performed in a variety of contexts. Some of the activities are non-routine and required individual responsibility and autonomy.

Malaysia Skills Certificate Level 3: Competent in performing a broad range

(Supervisory Level)of varied work activities, performed in a variety of contexts, most of which are complex and non-routine. There is considerable responsibility and autonomy and control or guidance of others is often required.

Malaysia Skills Diploma Level 4: Competent in performing a broad range (Executive Level)

of complex technical or professional work activities performed in a wide variety of contexts and with a substantial degree of personal responsibility and autonomy. Responsibility for the work of others and allocation of resources is often present.

Malaysia Skills Advanced Diploma

Competent in applying a significant

Level 5: (Managerial Level)range of fundamental principles and complex techniques across a wide and often unpredictable variety of contexts. Very substantial personal autonomy and often significant responsibility for the work of others and for the allocation of substantial resources features strongly, as do personal accountabilities for analysis, diagnosis, planning, execution and evaluation.

4. MALAYSIAN SKILL CERTIFICATION

Candidates after being assessed verified and fulfilled Malaysian Skill Certification requirements shall be awarded with Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) for Level 3 as for Level 4, 5 and 6 shall be awarded with Diploma Kemahiran Malaysia and Diploma Lanjutan Kemahiran Malaysia respectively.

5. JOB COMPETENCIES

The Hair Dresser (Level 3) personnel are competent in performing the following core competencies:- Pre-and post-hair care activities

Hair and scalp treatment

Hair coloring

Hair cutting

Hair bleaching

Hair straightening and perming

Practicing occupational health and safety procedures

Optionally, the Hair Dresser (Level 3) personnel are competent in performing the following elective competencies:-

Participating in workplace communication

Practicing career professionalism6. WORKING CONDITIONS

Self-employed hairdressers may work in their own salon set up in their home (home-based or domestic hairdressers) or at business premises, but may also work as mobile hairdressers (visiting clients in their homes or place of work, in retirement homes, at fashion shows, and weddings). Protective gloves should be used and chemical residues on skin should not remain for a long time.

As occurs in all workplaces, in order to understand and appropriately confront occupational safety and health (OSH) risks, one must first identify the hazards in the workplace and relate them to the likelihood of occurrence. The appropriate prevention measures should then be proposed and applied. This procedure is called risk assessment and is iterative At this point, it should be emphasised that the description of the risks and their required measures are not exhaustive.
