Initiative

• What is it? It is the process in which citizens put a proposed new law directly on a ballot.

• The significance of initiative is that the people get the power to make the laws.

Recall• It is the process by

which voters can remove elected officials from office before their terms end.

• The impact once again was allowing all the power to go to the people by allowing them to determine what happens to officials.

Referendum

• It is the process that allows citizens to approve or reject a law passed by legislature.

• The importance of referendum is to know they have allowed the people to continue getting power by now allowing them to pass laws.

Direct Election of Senators • It was basically the

changing of how we elected of senators. In the past we did it in a booth, but the 17th amendment changing it to where we get 2 per state.

• The significance of this was the 17th amendment.

Reform of Labor Laws

• Before the reform of labor laws there were kids as little as 12 working with no limitations. This is why these laws were set into place, to change the limits on working.

• The impact was it kept little children safe and limited on what they were able to do instead of no limits and deaths.

Improving Living Conditions • Why they were trying to improve living

conditions is because the living then was awful. There were things all over the roads and animals running around. It was just dreadful how they had to live, so they worked hard to improve the conditions.

• The significance of them improving the living conditions was it strengthened the community and all the people in it. It also bettered their health because of how poor they were before.
