Transcript of Stand For Children Mailer
50,338 children and teens are currently served through World Relief’s ministries. Children and fami-
lies are embracing new life in Christ, new habits for health and new standards for attending school.
As we celebrate these stories of transformation with you and look forward to the New Year our goal
is clear– in 2011 we want to strengthen these children and reach as many more!
Please consider these examples of how your gift will bless children:
$6,880: A gift of $6,880 will provide 10 Christian primary school teachers with
increased skills through 200 hours of training.
$17,500: A gift of $17,500 will empower 5,000 care group volunteers to reach
10-15 households with health messages.
$23,312 : A gift of $23,312 will reach 6,000 children (aged 3 to 5 years) with feed-
ing services through childcare centers.
$49,997: A gift of $49,997 will support 1,733 volunteers reaching children with Bibli-
cal life lessons focused on health, school promotion and anti-trafficking.

more likely to die during childbirth than to receive a high
school education. Since 2001, World Relief has been
working hard to improve health and recover education-
al opportunities lost to war. Partnering with the largest
Christian denomination in Sudan, we currently operate a
Child Development program that trains schoolteachers
and administrators to better serve children.

alarming rates—more than 60% of children under five are
chronically malnourished. World Relief uses the effective
‘care group’ model to teach mothers about disease preven-
tion, nutrition and hygiene. As mothers learn these lessons,
they repeat them in the homes of their neighbors, dramati-
cally improving health in families and communities.

less than $1.00 a day, medications for treatable ill-
nesses like diarrhea, pneumonia and tuberculosis are
sadly out of reach. Designed to prevent the spread of
disease, our Maternal and Child health programs train
volunteer health promoters to ensure households learn
the truth about hygiene, nutrition, immunizations and
disease prevention.

of only 2%, World Relief is integrating child development
with emerging cell churches. Thanks to the powerful tes-
timony and perseverance of the minority church, children
and parents throughout Cambodia are receiving life sav-
ing training and Bible lessons.

among youth. World Relief’s church-centered Mobi-
lizing Youth for Life program trains local ‘animators’
to promote the Biblical values of abstinence and
marital fidelity among children in churches, schools
and youth groups.
Child DevelopmentWorld Relief trains team members to build healthy
relationships with vulnerable children. In small
group settings, children learn about health, hygiene,
clean water and basic life skills—including respect-
ing others and conflict resolution. In certain small
groups, children receive nutritious meals. In others,
older children are empowered with small animals
like rabbits and chicks to generate income.
Maternal and Child HealthWorld Relief works with the church to tackle
the complex issues affecting children’s health.
Through our innovative care group model,
we empower the church to train groups of 10
to 15 community health volunteers to share
information about clean water, sanitation and
hygiene with their neighbors. In a short time,
this community health model saturates entire
regions with hope filled, life-saving messages.
Mobilizing for LifeWe believe the combination of pre-marital
abstinence and marital fidelity is the best way
—God’s way—to prevent the spread of AIDS
From the rice fields of Cambodia to the lava-rock roads of Congo and from the resettled homes of refugees
to the classrooms of Haiti, all the voices of World Relief thank you for your commitment to STAND/for the
Vulnerable. Over the course of the past year, your generosity has empowered local churches to faithfully
serve their communities.
As we look back on the closing year, our prayer is that no child goes forgotten. For too many children around
the world the innocence of childhood is briefly known. Often times the pressures of poverty fracture families and
force children to bear the burden of heavy responsibility long before they grow up. To bless these vulnerable
children with immunizations, education and much-needed encouragement, we would like to invite you to make a
STAND/FOR CHILDREN.
It is our honor to serve alongside you and express the love of Christ. We are grateful to have you join us this season with
a gift that helps children heal, grow, learn and flourish.
For the 600 million children living in severe poverty around the world every day is
difficult. Essential items such as water, sanitation, food, medicine and education are a
luxury. Follow along below to see what an average day looks like for an average child
living in poverty.
AN AVERAGE DAY
