In today’s headlines, Americans want to know how Osama bin Laden was able to live in a walled compound in the middle of a military city.

Closer to home, the Montgomery county council passes a bill that will impose a 5 cent surcharge on paper and plastic bags.

This user tax applies to all bags in all locations except restaurants and prescription drugs and is projected to raise one million dollars

The Viers Mill Elementary School PTA is holding their annual Spring Fair event on Saturday, May 14 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

They need 40 student volunteers for the event and would be pleased to have the participation of Parkland Middle School students.

This is an opportunity to earn SSL hours.

Please see Mrs. Hill in the guidance office to sign up. Deadline to sign up is Wednesday, May 11th.

Now here is another opportunity to do some good, have fun and earn SSL hours.

Maryvale Elementary School (located at 1000 First Street in Rockville) is having its 7th Annual Spring Fling Silent Auction and Carnival on Saturday, May 14th.

Student volunteers are needed for carnival set up from 10-12, work a game from 12 - 4:30 and clean up from 4:30-6.

Work as long as you like – you pick the hours. See Ms. Hill for more info.

Come See the Parkland staff & students show their amazing talents this Thursday May 5, 2011 at 7 pm.

Tickets are $5 and will be sold at all 3 lunches beginning Monday, May 2 and also at the door.

ATTENTION ALL VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS! We will not have practice today

BUT be ready to play on Wednesday May 11th!

Volleyball is NOW OPEN to 6th, 7th and 8th graders! To get a permission slip and learn more see Mrs. Gilchrist or Mrs. Keller.

There will be a basketball training for 6th grade girls on May the 10th from 3-4.

Please be dressed in proper basketball clothing.

All interested 6th grade girls should see Mr. Doye for permission forms.
