His popularity took him to covering more mares in the Trakehner Ver- band than any other stallion in the past two decades. Although Gribaldi’s dam Gondola II was very small of size she did not have a genetical predisposition for poor size, but she was born as a small twin. Elite mare Gondola II was also the dam of Gribaldi’s licensed full brother, Goldino born in 1985 and succesful in small tour at the age of 7, and to Gribaldi’s full sister Georgi- na who became best three-year-old at the mare inspec- tion in Hessen. Her sire, DLG champion stallion Ibikus, was a star producer of sport horses and was successful up to Intermediate level himself. He is regarded as one of the most influential Trakehner sires of his. In October 1995 Gribaldi was licensed in Neumünster, nominated as the premium stallion and sold at the tra- ditional auction for 300,000 DM to the Dutch stallion keepers Mr de Jong and Joop van Uytert. He was mar- keted extensively and his offspring made good buzz early on. Meanwhile, Gribaldi himself performed very well to- gether with Edward Gal on the international dressage circuit and placed in top ten at the World Cup final in Las Vegas in 2007. During a certain period Gribaldi and his approved son Painted Black both represented the Dutch national dressage team. The successes of Gribaldi progeny are almost too many to mention. A few of his more notable offspring are Dan- ish champion stallion Zardin Firfod, the Trakehner re- serve champion Hofrat, Trakehner champion colt Imho- tep, and the most expensive Trakehner ever, Distelzar, who sold for the astronomical sum of DM 600,000 at the age of 3. Gribaldi is the sire of numerous Grand Prix horses, such as the outstanding Painted Black, Girasol, Sisther de Jeu and not least Totials. Gribaldi’s Hanover- ian approved grandson Hotline by Hofrat out of a De Niro dam was sold for 800,000 € to Paul Schockemöhle The successes of Gribaldi progeny are almost too many to mention
