Following the decision by An Bord Pleanala to grant planning permission for the Primary Care Centre for Celbridge on the Maynooth Road, Celbridge, Deputy Emmet Stagg has indicated that the Celbridge Primary Care Centre will be operational in early 2016. An Bord Pleanala granted planning permission for the project as did Kildare Co. Council originally despite concerns expressed by residents living near the site which is bounded on the South by The Workhouse Building and to the North East by the Lidl foodstore and the Famine Graveyard to the West. The HSE has advised Deputy Stagg that the developer Clarington Properties are currently finalising funding for the project and that the HSE have signed an Agreement to Lease space in the building for the development of a Primary Care Centre for Celbridge. It is expected that construction will commence in September 2014 and the Primary Care Centre will be operational in early 2016. A Primary Care Centre will make a real difference to the way in which the people of Celbridge access health care services in the community. Primary Care Centres will be the first point of contact for people who need to access health services in the years ahead. In a developed Primary Care system, as envisaged by the Government, up to 95% of people’s day-to-day health and social care needs can be provided in a community setting. Primary Care services mean all of the health or social care services that you can find in your community, outside of the hospital setting. Primary Care includes GPs, Public Health Nurses and a range of other services provided through your Local Health Office such as Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Home Help Support Staff. The Primary Care Team members also link with other community-based disciplines to ensure all health and social needs are provided for. These include Speech and Language Therapy, Dieticians, Mental Health Services. Social Work, Podiatry, Dental Services and Opthalmic Services. Deputy Stagg will continue to monitor progress on the delivery of the Primary Care Centre for Celbridge.
