Research

• In the research stages we had to take a look at real Music Videos, and gather an understanding of the make up of a r n b Music Video. We found that Youtube was a fantastic tool available to us as we could find any previous music videos and watch it.

• We researched our artist on Wikipedia for facts and figures, which we then put on out final product. We also had a look at our artist’s (labrinth) official website to see how the actual album was constructed

• A lot of our planning relied on presentations and images so tools like PowerPoint and fireworks were helpful also.

• Our audience research was filmed on a HD camera, we filmed the audience response to our questions and edited the footage using title cards in order for it to make sense.

• Any piece of technology should be user friendly to enable its user to carry out a task with ease , we found blogger.com an imperative tool in blogging our progress and the websites user friendly interface invited us to share our progress. Blogger enabled us to upload videos, presentations and pretty much anything.

Construction

• Obviously first and for most for us to create a music video we needed to catch actual moving footage. To do this we used a digital cam-corder which was a triumph as it was light weight and portable which allowed us to carry out round with us. We utilised the cam-corder’sability to zoom in and out of different targets. A lot of our footage was shot in the streets of London so at first I was worried that we may have caught footage that was too shaky, but after watching the footage back I could see how it was a true portrayal of being out on a night out in London.

• At the start of the year we visited the Brentford CLC centre, which was helpful as the man doing the presentation was an expert at using iMovie, we learnt a lot from him and he answered questions that we had about iMovie.

• Whilst constructing our digi-pack we knew that our products needed synergy between them, to do this we used the same green font in our CD cover and our magazine. The font we chose was created and mediated on fireworks and we were tactful in its construction as the font would be a key selling point to our target audience.

Planning

• During the planning stages we created a animatic of different images that were going to be in our music video. We played our track over the mood board to gather an understanding of what our music video would roughly look like.

• Similairy we gathered images likely to be in our music video and put them together to create a mood board. We gathered images of the internet for the moodboard. We visited labrinthsofficial site as well as NME official website to gather images of party scenes and our target audience.

• We made several rough CD covers on fireworks and we whittled it down to a choice of two, we utilised the use of colour available to us, as different colours creates completely different meanings

Evaluation

• The digital technologies availbe to us in the evaluation stages were helpful, for instance the camcorder which enabled us to film our audiences reaction to our music video.

• For this we played our music video to our demographic audience in a controlled environment, and asked them numerous questions. We then edited the footage on iMovie, by removing us asking them questions and creating title cards instead.

• We also used powerpoint in our evaluations and embedded stills from websites and from our actual music video, which was vital as we needed to show what we were actual talking about.

• We posted our final music video on Facebook, and invited our friends to comment on it. Pretty much eveyone in our demographic of 16- 22 year olds has facebook so doing this we were appealing to our taget audience.
