Helping your family today: Water the pot plants in your home and your garden.

Session One

Listen to your teacher's morning message on Seesaw.  English Reading ❏ Listen to today’s story read by one of your teachers. (online)

‘A Proper Little Lady’, written by Nette Hilton, read by Mr West. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1u769YdpglPq8VQ2hOyW8WjWEED3K1eWc/view?usp=sharing

❏ The comprehension focus for this week is making inferences. This is where we use clues from the text and our background knowledge to draw conclusions. Example: The character in the book is wearing a rain jacket and has gumboots on. Inference = It must be raining heavily outside.

❏ Choose a book on the PM reader app or your own picture book. Read the book aloud to a parent or sibling. Week 4 ‘inference’ focus - After you read, talk about any messages the author might have wanted the reader to think about. (online or offline) https://app.pmecollection.com.au/

❏ Optional Task - Reading Eggs. Use your school log in to complete 15 minutes of reading activities. (online) https://readingeggs.com.au/

❏ Optional Task - Once Upon A Story. Choose one of the pictures and answer the inference questions about that picture. (online) https://www.onceuponapicture.co.uk/the-collections/the-inference-collection/

 Writing

Warm Up ❏ Optional Task - Write a recount of your weekend. Make sure you include who, where, when and what. (offline)

Persuasive Writing (planning): Playing outside is better than playing inside

❏ Create a venn diagram with all the reasons why it is fun to play outside and inside. (offline) Some possible reasons: I get to play at the beach in the water and on the sand, I can run around on the grass, my friends and I can chase each other, outside play is more active, inside I can build a cubby house, I can play with my toys.

❏ Look at all your reasons and put a star next to your three best reasons for playing inside, and your 3 best reasons for playing outside. You will use some of these reasons to develop your writing throughout this week.

Fitness To help us with this week's writing task we will do some fitness activities inside and some outside. Today’s activities could be completed indoors or outdoors (offline).

❏ Simon Says Fitness - Get the children moving by calling out these fun physical activities. You decide when or if you say ‘Simon Says’. Bend down and touch your toes 5 times, hop on one leg, hop on the other leg, balance on your right foot for 20sec, run on the spot for 10secs, do 10 star jumps, walk like a bear, hop around like a kangaroo, show off your muscles in your arms, pretend to sit on an imaginary chair 5 times, stretch up as high as you can, take 5 of the biggest steps forward then backwards, do a silly dance to the count of 10.

Listen to the Sound Info Kit and view the phoneme and graphemes in the Sound Box.  ❏ Write out 10-16 of your list words and underline the focus grapheme in each word ( l ll ).  ❏ Optional Task- Segment words using the Segmenting Tool or choose from one of the blackline masters on

Sound Waves.  Mathematics ❏ Fractions and Decimals/Time (Online) - We use fractions to describe the time of day. Watch the below video

(up to approximately 3mins 30sec) to review how we use halves and quarters in telling the time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RJzoyIVzV8.  Clock memory/match game - Access ABC Education and play the online memory match game: https://education.abc.net.au/res/i/L9653/index.html

❏ Making a paper clock (Offline) - Cut a piece of paper into a large circle. Fold this paper into halves and then quarters. Create your own analogue clock showing half past, quarter past and quarter to the hour. Part Two: With a partner, have one person write a digital clock time to the hour, half hour or quarter hour (e.g. 9:30). Then have the other person make this time on their clock and say the time using the fraction (e.g. “half past nine”). Take alternate turns to do this.  * If you don’t have materials at home you could use the analogue clock at this link: https://education.abc.net.au/res/i/L9651/index.html

❏ Optional Task - Tell Time Games (Online) - Access Splash Learn and play the Tell Time games: https://www.splashlearn.com/time-games

 Session Three

Science & Technology - Living Things (Plants) Introduction:

❏ Watch the time lapse video of how a bean seed grows https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w77zPAtVTuI (Online)

❏ Discuss what happened in the video:  ❏ Are plants living things? Why do you think so? ❏ Could you see different parts of the plant? What were they? ❏ What else did you observe? (offline)

❏ Facts to teach:  Plants are living things. They can be big or small, different colours and different shapes. Plants cover much of the Earth's environments and even live in the sea and waterways. Humans and animals need plants for the air we breathe (oxygen) and for food. Drawing activity:

❏ What are some plants you like to eat? Write the title Plants at the top of your page and draw some of the plants that you enjoy eating. Don’t forget to label your pictures. Do you know what part of the plant you are eating? (offline)

No Seesaw upload today.

Assessment: Teachers will be completing a writing assessment with students at school this week. This assessment is for students working with their teacher at school today.

Reflecting on today’s learning: What did you find interesting today?

❏ Optional Task - Reading Eggs. Use your school log in to complete 15 minutes of reading activities. (online) https://readingeggs.com.au/

Writing Warm Up:

❏ Optional Task (Grammar): When we are trying to persuade or convince the reader that something is true it is important that we consider the language we use. Think of a synonym for these commonly used words and write a sentence with your ‘better’ word: nice, bad, small, break.

(For example: The natural environment is nice/beautiful.) (offline)

Persuasive Writing (drafting): Playing outside is better than playing inside ❏ Choose one side of the argument. Use your best three reasons from yesterday’s venn diagram and write to

persuade your reader that playing outside is/isn’t better than playing inside. Write your first reason and write a paragraph explaining your reason (3-4 sentences). Then do the same for your second and third reasons. (If you only write 1 paragraph, or you would like to write 4 paragraphs, that is fine). (offline).
