School Lunch—price increase

For the past two years we have

managed to keep the cost of a school lunch to

£2.05. From September 2017, a school lunch

will cost £2.10. Please be assured that we do

our best to keep costs down as much as

possible.

Mrs Jo Smalley, who is currently responsible for Pupil Premium across the school, will join the Inclusion Team from September and oversee SEND/Inclusion with Mrs Lambert and Mrs Metcalfe (until she starts her maternity leave). Jo will continue the great job she is doing as Pupil Premium

Manager.

Pickwick Learning Teaching School Alliance (PLTSA) News

Pickwick Learning Teaching School Alliance was created by Corsham Primary School and four other founding schools 3 years ago, in order to offer support and professional development

services to other schools, as well as to be able to train teachers on the job through our School Direct programme. It now has over 45 schools as alliance members across 5 local

authorities. Wiltshire Local Authority, Snapdragons nurseries, several businesses and charities, and three Universities are also partners

We continue to be proud of all the work the PLTSA does to support schools and colleagues in the

local area – it continues to go from strength to strength!

We thought you would be interested to hear that we recently got the go ahead from the Department for Education (DfE) to open up a Pickwick Hub in Salisbury – the aim of this hub is to

be able to offer teaching school services in South Wiltshire. We have therefore recently appointed two job sharing hub leaders to join the expanding team and continue the good work

Pickwick Learning does but in the south of the county. From September the Pickwick team will be:

Mr James Passmore – Director Mrs Amy Tapscott – Deputy Director (North Wiltshire, Bristol and South Glos)

Mr Alan Geary and Mrs Rebecca Bone (job-share) - Deputy Director (South Wiltshire)

To find out more about Pickwick Learning and the work it is doing visit the website: www.pltsa.co.uk

What is a Teaching School?

Teaching Schools are groups of Department for Education approved schools that work

collaboratively with others to provide high quality professional development, school

improvement work and Initial Teacher Training.

They are part of the DfE’s goal to give schools a central role in raising standards by developing

a self-improving and sustainable school-led system.

Schools in Teaching School Alliances benefit from the highest quality CPD, share best practice,

are kept up to date with the latest education developments, take part in peer reviews and

evidence based research, have access to local, national and international expertise and

demonstrate that they are outward facing.

Schools can both benefit from and contribute to support provided by the Teaching School

Alliance.

Broadwood and Pound Pill both had a wonderful afternoon in the sun, competing in a

local schools cricket tournament. Each team played three matches and had the

opportunity to receive some cricket coaching in between games. Broadwood came 6th

overall with Pound Pill taking 3rd place. Well done everyone who took part.

Athletics Festival

A group of 14 Year 5 and 6 children took part in the Quad Kids athletics festival at the University of Bath. The children competed in 5 different events: 75m sprint,

javelin, long jump, 600m and relay. Their favourite events were the long jump and relay. It was a great afternoon and fantastic effort from all the children!

Tuck Reminder ….

Please remember that tuck can be brought in from home for children to enjoy at break times and this must only be fruit or plain biscuits. (No chocolate biscuits.) Reception children

pay for their tuck directly to the class teacher (70p per week). Fruit is also provided by school to all children in Key Stage 1 at break times.

Important note regarding Parking

Please may we again urge parents to

be considerate if driving to drop off

and pick up their child/ren. The

school offices take calls from

residents every week asking that our

parents do not park over their

driveways, on private land and

inconsiderately in the vicinity of both

sites.

Pound Pill

We really do appreciate that parking

can be difficult in and around

Corsham. If you regularly drive,

please apply to the school office for a

parking permit enabling you to use

the Co-op car park in Newlands

Road.

Broadwood

Please park at the nearby community

centre and walk across to school

rather than using the narrow roads in

the local community.

Thank you.

Over the next few weeks of term, Foundation Stage and Key

Stage 1 will be enjoying getting to know their new classrooms and

teachers. Each class will have the opportunity to have Story Times

and Golden Times in their new year groups in addition to spending

the whole morning with their new teacher. They will also have lots

of opportunities to ask questions about their new classes in

preparation for September. Finally, we will all get together for our

annual Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 Picnic.

We are very much looking forward to this year’s annual School Council Talent Contest which will be on Wednesday 19 July 2017. Please get your entries

in as soon as possible to the school office.

The Talent Contest is one of the highlights of the year and soon we will be discovering who at Corsham Primary has serious talent!

Indhu Rani Friday 26 May

It always amazes the staff how the children so enthusiastically

think and plan such fantastic activities for everyone to enjoy. From

face painting to decorating biscuits—the children had thought of it

all and on top of that, they raised a staggering £1476.16 in just one

hour!

All their hard earned cash will be sent to the Goodwill

Village in India. Well done children, you were brilliant and thank

you Mums and Dads, friends and extended family for all your

support.

Social network warning ...

Instagram and Kik

These are inappropriate social network sites and certainly no child under 13 should have access to them, as they will have possible access to unscrupulous people who use these sites to groom young and innocent children. What is particularly worrying is that children can use iPods or smart phones to access these sites, making it extremely difficult for parents to monitor or protect their children.

We would urge all parent and carers to be vigilant of not only computers and laptops but also their children's iPods and smart phones. Some parents have asked us about Facebook which is also a social networking site and again, is for children of 13 years or over only.

Plea from First Aid

We are desperate for spare white polo

shirts for use in case of accidents. If

you have any old ones that are no

longer useful, please consider donating

them to us.

Thank you!

Transfer of pupil information to new schools

As we are nearing the end of term and our Year 6

children are preparing to join their chosen

secondary schools, we are spending lots of time

sharing information with the new settings in order

to help the children settle as quickly and easily as

possible. It is a requirement that school records

are transferred when a child moves to another

school, in any year group. This includes

information about their personality/character,

academic progress, if they have any SEND etc.,

and also any information relating to safeguarding

or Child Protection. If you have any questions

please contact the school office.

Bath Chronicle—Yarn Bomb!

On Monday 19 June, children, parents and staff at Broadwood were surprised and delighted to discover on arrival at school, the most colourful, beautiful, temporary art of knitted bunting, scarves and flowers adorning the car park. This unexpected YARN BOMB was organised by our wonderful ladies from the Friday knitting club who together with their Corsham Group created these colourful creations to support the PTA leading up to our Summer Fayre. Comments from the children included, “This is so cool”, “This is like a hug”, “Wow, like this is awesome!” We want to give a great big thank you to Sue, Margaret and Margaret. Although the knitting has now disappeared we are sure that it will be kept safely to possibly come out again some time in the future.

Miss Palmer’s Recommended Reads

Please look out for these books in our class libraries, Corsham Library,

The Corsham Book Shop or online.

It's a busy year for the Queen - she has lots of

important events to attend. Meanwhile, a little girl

is wondering what knickers Her Majesty will choose

to wear on a school visit! Will they be her

'at home' knickers - adorned with corgis - or her

'garden party' knickers, or perhaps her woolly

‘Balmoral’ ones...?

A naughty swan steals the Queen's handbag, so

naturally, the Queen races after it. She follows it

all around the United Kingdom in various modes of

transport, including an Aston Martin car, a

motorbike, a Red Arrow plane, a speedboat, a train

and a horse. Taking in sights such as Stonehenge,

Snowdonia, Giants Causeway, Edinburgh Castle,

Oxford and then arriving back in London, this chase

includes the Queen's butler and an awful

lot of policemen.

Non-Fiction Book

As the longest-reigning British monarch, it's hard to

believe that when Elizabeth was born, no-one imagined

that she would one day be Queen - so how did this

happen? Read all about Queen Elizabeth II's story in this

engaging illustrated story book, which traces her life from

childhood, to Coronation and the dawning of a

new Elizabethan Age.

The children in Year 6 are busy putting the final touches to their end of year production, “Be Our Guest”. We have it on good authority that the

rehearsals are going well and we are all really looking forward to seeing the show. This year, the two sites

are working together and the performance times are:

Wednesday 5 July at 6pm Thursday 6 July at 6pm

This assembly (for children at both sites) will be held at 2.00pm at St. Bartholomew’s Church on

Thursday 13 July

Medical Information Update

We need to make sure that any pertinent

medical information relating to your

child is recorded in case of emergency.

If necessary, please can you let the office

know—brief details are all that is

necessary eg. asthma, allergy to

penicillin etc.

Year 6 Leavers’ Party is on Monday 17 July at Boomerang in Melksham

6.30pm—8.30pm.

We will regularly email/text you
