We had a loss against Takaka 1 in our first game and then managed wins against Takaka 2 and Collingwood, which put us in the final against the unbeaten Takaka 1 team. In the final we managed to hold them scoreless for several minutes and halfway through the game it was 5 all, after a burst down the blindside by Oscar who scored in the corner. Our try seemed to galvanise the Takaka team and they lifted their game to eventually win comfortably. There were some tired boys at the end after four hard games and we were proud of the way they never gave up and the great attitude they displayed. Player of the day was Max for his non stop tackling. Thanks to all the parents who supported the team, it was appreciated by us all. “It was so much fun playing kids we didn’t know. Town Bus Due to concerns about children safety when the town bus drops the children off at the Bickleys’ Depot, it has been decided that the bus

will stop outside the TNL Office ( just beside Bickleys’ office) and drop the children off.

Parents are asked to park on the roadside rather than in the yard because of all the bus and truck traffic going in and out.

Chess We wish the chess team all the best at the National Schools Chess Champs in Auckland next week.

The team will leave early on Monday morning and visit the Auckland Zoo and the Sky Tower and

Tuesday will be a full on day of chess.

The team have been lucky to have local chess players Mike, Piers and Carol come in and tutor them.

Sponsorship from lots of kind locals has enabled the trip to go ahead and the children have sent

letters of thanks to them all.

“I’m looking forward to playing chess all day but nervous about maybe not winning games, but I’ll be

doing my best.” Gabby

“I’ve never been to Auckland before and I’m really excited about that. The tournament will be a

great experience as I get to play other children from all around New Zealand.” Rosie

“I’m looking forward to seeing the Sky Tower and hanging out in Auckland. I’m a better chess

player now, because I’ve learnt so much from the adults who have been playing us.” Nico

The Best Day Ever - By Joe Room 3

I felt excited in the morning when I got

out of bed because it was Daffodil Day. I

wore an orange t-shirt because it was

the Daffodil Day colour. There were lots

of people there. I went to have a jelly cup

first, then I went and did the dart throw

on the court and got to sit on the

teachers chair for a whole day. We have

Daffodil Day to raise money for the

cancer people. It was a really fun day.

Daffodil Day - By Holley Room 3

Last Friday it was Daffodil Day. When

I got out of bed I was excited because

it was Daffodil Day. Lots and lots of

people were there. I did the gumboot

throw and the dart board and the

catapult, and I had sherbet. It was the

best day ever. I had some jelly with

cream on it. It was really fun and fun.

At the end I was still happy because I

was going to Totaranui.

Daffodil Day - By Kier Room 3

Daffodil Day is a day when all the

classes make something. Room 3 made

seed packets and lemonade and jelly

and we sold it. The children and their

parents brought them. There was a

dart board and catapult there too. I

felt good when I did lemon dunking

because you have to put your head

under the water. It was the best day

ever because we could buy things.

What a wonderful turnout for our Daffodil Day extravaganza. Thank you all for being so generous. Our school made a whopping $1069 for the Cancer society.

have. The skills and qualities will be put into a more user friendly format. Also included are some of the areas

What Could Be Improved At Motupipi School

Here are some of the ideas of what could be improved at Motupipi. Some were published in the August newsletter

and more will follow next week.

Production to be held in term 3 as term 4 becomes extremely busy. We have moved our school production /

concert to term 3 for this reason and the fact our sound and lighting technician is now able to provide his

services late in term 3. Term 4 is busy enough with gathering data for school reports and writing them, end of

year camps and sports events.

It was mentioned that some children get stressed with the school concert. If that is the case contact the class

teacher and a lesser part can be given to the child. Children will get nervous being on stage as we all do and

that is just part of performing.

Lots of time is spent by parents on costuming. Teachers may ask for help with costuming and this is voluntary.

Costumes will be arranged by the teacher if parents aren’t available.

Assembly certificates don’t recognize average good working sloggers . I have checked our record of children

receiving certificates in assembly and found that this statement is not correct. Most children receive

certificates and they have been given for acting out our school vision and motto. Certificates given out in

assembly aren’t the only acknowledgement children get. Other examples are; work published in newsletters,

work shared in front of class, to other classes and the principal, verbal praise from teacher, parents

informed, rewards such as free choice of activity, choice of class game, stickers or treats.

More information about what activities are happening in and out of classroom - Generally parents will be informed

of activities through class newsletters, notices home or via the weekly newsletters.

Staff are to ensure parents are given adequate notice of events if possible. Part of the philosophy of

teaching at Motupipi is to “use the teachable moment” which means to

make the use of opportunities that present themselves. In these cases parents will generally find out about

happenings afterwards.

Assemblies- better communication of when they are on At times things come up that necessitate a change in

when an assembly is to be held . Communication in this could be better. Dates are put in the newsletter and

if something comes up a text message will be sent to all those whose cellphone numbers we have.

Board of Trustees minutes should be more public . A copy of the Board of Trustees minutes are available in the

office. Board members and the Principal can be contacted if parents have any queries.

Contact numbers of the Board members are
