National Honor Society What Is It?

The National Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to

recognize outstanding middle and elementary level students. More than just an honor

roll, NEHS (National Elementary Honor Society) and NJHS (National Junior Honor

Society) serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the

areas of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. These

characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its

beginning in 1929.

NEHS and NJHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto

Rico, many U.S. territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes

students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through

active involvement in school activities and community service.

Who Is Eligible?

Scholars who obtain and maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average for the first

semester will be invited to attend the National Honor Society Luncheon at TAPrep on

January 31, 2018. During the luncheon scholars will be given an application packet and

will be informed of the application process and requirements for membership. The

deadline to submit a completed application is February 14, 2018. Applications submitted

past this deadline will not be considered.

Why Become a Member?

Scholars inducted to the national honor society receive national recognition for their

performance, in and out of the classroom. When NHS members participate in

community service projects, attend national leadership events, and serve as

ambassadors for TAPrep they become a model of exemplary character in their

community. National Honor Society members create a prestige for our scholars to

model after. They improve the culture of the school and create a light for God’s glory.

National Honor

Society Scholars

Will:

1) Network with other accomplished student leaders

2) Build a portfolio of life achievements

3) Create a solid foundation for future endeavors

4) Enhance their applications for high school, college, and career

resumes and cover letters

5) Learn and practice essential leadership skills

Dear Parents,

In Matthew 25:36-40 Jesus said that when we clothe the naked we in are fact serving Him. We thank you so much, again, for

making our “Jeans for Teens” campaign a big success.

This winter we have the opportunity to be the salt (Matthew 5:13) in the lives of children, teens, and families that are in need.

Did you know that socks are the least donated item to adults and youth who are experiencing homelessness? Let's do something

about it.

Please join “Takoma Academy Preparatory School” & “Salt, Life and Love” as we donate NEW SOCKS to homeless in D.C.

Donation bags will be available in all classrooms. The class that collects the most socks will win a pizza party!

We praise God for the soles and the souls that will be blessed with this project.
