A high quality Waste Heat Boiler. Two levels.

Optimal heat emission. Done in a jiffy.

• Crude oil often contains dissolved gasses such

as sulphur (H2S) and other gaseous

compounds.

• H2S may corrode storage tanks and the

gaseous substances could even cause them to

explode.

• Therefore, it is essential to stabilise crude oil

first.

• The pressure on the crude oil is reduced and

subsequently the gaseous compounds are

removed in a distillation column.

• The heat required for this process comes from

a reboiler.

• The gaseous mixture that is released can than

be treated further in several ways.

• One option is to burn the mixture and use the

heat to produce steam via waste heat boilers.

• By cooling the combustion gases, it is also

possible to recover the sulphur in the oil in its

solid form.

Challenge / question

• A client is looking for a special waste heat boiler.

• He would like to use the heat of the combustion gases at a

temperature of 1.200°C.

• The heat must be absorbed in two steps.

• The first step is at a high level where intense cooling of the

tubes must be guaranteed.

• The inlet of the tubes must also be resistant to the high

temperatures.

• In the second step, the hot gasses cool down further to a

lower level where the temperatures on the tube side are less

critical.

Our solution

• To absorb the heat at a high level in the first step,

we use a thermosiphon reboiler which guarantees

extreme cooling of the tubes.

• The clever use of a separator drum placed above

the steamer guarantees a homogenous flow and

temperature around the tubes via several risers

and downcomers.

• The cooling down of the hot flow in the second

step is done by using a standard kettle reboiler.

• The conditioned internal recirculation of this kettle

provides optimal cooling of the hot gasflow.
