Year 3 worked hard using line, detail and composition to
create a sense of drama to their printed Viking longship
invasion. Irish Jane used amazing detail on her flag and
viking shields on the side of her boat. Can you spot Irish
Jane’s boat among all the other brilliant ships year 3 pupils
have printed?
Sports Day KS1 & KS2—17th July
Sports day for KS1 & KS2 will be held on Monday 17th July at
Lillie Road Recreational Ground. We would like to invite you to join
us to encourage the children during their events.
KS1 sports day will take place in the morning from 9.45am –
12.30pm. Children will return to school for the afternoon sessions.
KS2 sports day will take place in the afternoon but the children
will arrive in time for lunch from 11.45am – 3.25pm.
Lunch will be at 12pm and you are very welcome to join your child’s
class. All children in KS1 and those in KS2 who are entitled to a
free meal will be provided with a school packed lunch. KS2 children
will need to bring in a healthy packed lunch with them.
Children will need to come to school wearing their full PE kit with
plimsolls, no trainers. If the weather is hot please make sure that
your child has plenty of water, is wearing a hat and that you have
applied sun cream to your child before they come to school.
Just to remind you that you may take photos/videos on the day but
you may not upload them to social media sites without permission
from other parents.
St. Thomas’ multiplication fun
Last week some classes throughout the
school worked with Mrs Haggis to
explore fun and imaginative ways to
learn their times tables. Year 2 made
some wonderful posters of a chosen
table to help them visualise them. Year 3 wrote songs, raps
and poems to help them remember the tables they
struggled with the most. Year 4 went onto the playground
and used chalk to make a times tables hopscotch. They
used these to test a friend and the other children were
then able to play on them at break time. They also made
paper chatterboxes to test each other. Hopefully this has
given them some lovely ideas on how to practice while
having fun at the same time. Please encourage your child to
continue learning their times tables at home over the
summer, maybe using some of these ideas.
Congratulations to Mrs Woodward
She gave birth to a healthy baby boy on the
7th July, weighing 8lbs 9. They have named
him Archie and both mum and Archie are
doing well.
Bute Choir Festival On Tuesday, Deer class took park in the Bute house choir
festival. They performed their samba drumming and
showed how
hard they
have been
working
during the
workshops.
It was a
lovely
afternoon!
Butterflies Trip to Bishop’s Park
On Tuesday, Butterflies class went to the forest school in
Bishop’s Park. Lots of parents joined the children and saw
what the class do during forest school.
They went on a flower and plant hunt and made a frame
using sticks and string. They even managed to have their
picnic before the rain came and soaked everyone!
A big thank you to the parents who came along!
Squirrels Science Museum Trip
On Wednesday, Squirrels learned about
forces and magnets. They learned about
Newton's laws and how an object will not move
until it is moved by another force through push or pull.
They also learnt that for every action (force) in nature
there is an equal and opposite reaction. Finally they learnt
that like poles in magnets repel and opposite poles attract.
Clever Squirrels!
