TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 6, 2019
Letter to a Suffering Church Books Over the past 20 years our Church has had to acknowledge and address the criminal activity of
many of its priests and bishops that were involved or complicit in the clergy sexual abuse
scandal. We, both practicing and non-practicing Catholics, need reasons for hope. Bishop Robert
Barron, Auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles, social media entrepreneur and popular Podcaster, has
written an incredibly honest and inspiring book. This book, acknowledging the sins of the past
while giving us reasons to hope, is called Letter to a Suffering Church. There are a few copies
remaining at the entrances to the church and chapel. Over 300 copies have already been taken
by parishioners! Please read it, reflect on it, pray with it and share it with others.
Mass Counts Every October, parishes in the Archdiocese are asked to take a count of those who are attending Mass. Throughout October, ushers will be taking a count of parishioners after the collection. Don’t be alarmed if you see them walking down the aisle taking a count.
Dates: Wednesdays (October 9th – December 11th) Location: Saint Thomas Aquinas Lower Church Time: 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Dates: Sundays (October 6th – December 15th) Location: St. Basil Chapel Community Room Time: 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Cost: $10 per person to help cover the cost of the purchased materials Contact: Aaron Durocher - [email protected] or 508-531-1346 Register: Please visit www.stthomasaquinas.com to register.
We encourage you to join us as we strengthen our faith through an exploration of the Biblical origins of the Eucharist. We will use the powerful Augustine Institute video series on the Eucharist. Each participant will receive an in-depth study guide to keep. We strongly urge you to attend all 10 sessions, however, if you need to miss some, that is completely fine.
The Eucharist How do we know that Christ is truly present?
A recent Pew Research Center survey revealed that two-thirds (69%) of U.S. Catholics do not believe in transubstantiation, that during the Mass, the bread and wine become Jesus Christ’s actual body and blood (The Eucharist). While this is a fundamental teaching of the Catholic Church, it can be difficult to understand. However, God, through Sacred Scripture, provides us with many verses that can provide us with a deeper understanding of this mystery.
What to Do When a Friend is Considering Abortion
Read the full version at respectlife.org/l-o-v-e.
When a woman is facing a difficult pregnancy, the reaction of the first person she tells tends to set the tone for her decision-making. How do we respond in a loving way that is life-affirming for both her and her baby? First, prioritize listening over speaking. Ask her about her feelings, thoughts, values, beliefs, and wants. When her story is fully shared, it is your turn to provide factual information, in a loving and caring way. Encourage her. Help her set goals that extend beyond her due date to help her see life beyond her pregnancy. Reassure her that she is not alone, and provide practical support. Pray with her, offering Christ’s love at a crucial life-saving and life-defining moment.

Are you hoping to get your student into a 6th, 7th, or 8th grade class on Mondays?
We have received numerous phone calls and e-mails from parents interested in our Monday classes. Currently, our 6th and 8th Grade classes at 3:45 p.m. have 20+ students. Our 7th grade class has 17 students. We are trying very hard to accommodate parent requests. In order to do so, we need:
one grade 6 teacher for Mondays at 3:45 p.m.
one grade 7 teacher for Mondays at 3:45 p.m.
one grade 8 teacher for Mondays at 3:45 p.m.
In addition, we need:
substitute teachers who are willing to be on call in the event our regularly scheduled teachers are absent, with the greatest need being on Mondays at 3:45 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. for all grades
3 co-teachers for 9th grade on Sundays at 5:00 p.m.
FAITH FORMATION NEWS Classes began Sunday, September 22nd! If you have not yet registered, you still may do so. Please visit www.stthomasaquinas.com and click on the Faith Formation registration instructions link, or call Kristine in the Faith Formation office at 508-697-3652 for assistance.
