The St. Stephen’s position opening for coordinator of youth ministry is for a full-time Youth Minister to facilitate ministry to teens (LifeTeen and Edge) and young adults (aged 18-25). Ideal candidates would be Catholic, a highly energetic self-starter, bilingual in Spanish, have an intimate knowledge and respect for the teachings of the Catholic Church, comfortable in utilizing social media, have a bachelor’s degree in theology or a related field, and experience in running a Youth Ministry program. The Youth Minister must be present to teens in their school

activities, sports events, etc. Salary and benefits are dependent upon training and experience in accord with Diocesan Compensation Worksheet. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, detailed resume, and three references (two professional and one personal/spiritual) by August 5th, 2019 to Fr. Rodney White, the Pastor. El evangelio de hoy, con María embelesada a los pies del Maestro, escuchando su palabra, nos habla del valor de la oración, que empieza con la escucha de la palabra de Dios. Esta es la visión de San Lucas, que narra el hecho como prólogo de la apremiante exhortación de Jesús a la oración de petición, que se leyó este domingo.

En el proceso de beatificación del Papa Juan Pablo II el Dr. Renato Buzzonnetti, su médico, decía: “Quien ha estado cerca de él, ha aprendido ante todo a rezar. Era un hombre de gran caridad, que vivía en íntima unión con el Señor. Oraba aun en los momentos más impensables. Impresionó cuando por primera vez entró en el salón de las Naciones Unidas con el rosario en la mano” (“Totus tuus”, mayo 2007,10).

Ojalá pueda decirse de todo sacerdote que quien se le acerca aprende a rezar o a rezar mejor, ojalá puedan decir los hijos de sus padres que gracias a ellos aprendieron a rezar, ojalá lo puedan decir los alumnos de sus maestros católicos, los niños de sus catequistas, de un cristiano cualquiera para el que se

encuentre en la vida con él. La misa de cada domingo es ante todo un acto de oración, el acto de culto más valioso para la vida de cada cristiano y para bien de toda la Iglesia.

Orar es el respirar de la fe. No se puede hablar de vida cristiana, ni tan siquiera de fe, sin oración. Orar es un deber fundamental si se cree en Dios Padre, Dios amor, y en Jesucristo salvador. En la oración se alimentan, despiertan, ejercitan y desarrollan las fuerzas vitales de la vida divina del Espíritu en nosotros. Y sin orar no se pueden cumplir a largo plazo los demás deberes morales.

Helping Hands of Midland 1301 Brinson Lane

We received a referral from another agency over a man needing help with his rent. He was unable to pay it due to medical issues. He had never asked for help before. When we met with Steven he was nervous and very uncomfortable over having to ask for help. He told us he was the sole support of his 8 and 9 year old nieces. When his mother became terminally ill several months ago his sister moved into their mother’s small house to take care of her. There was not enough room in the house for her two children, and so Steven agreed to take care of them until his mother’s situation changed. To date mom is still alive, and his sister tends to her full time, sleeping on a cot in her mother’s bedroom. Steven held a full time job and was able to support the two children and his sister, plus help with his mother’s medications and her bills. A few months ago Steven became ill. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He underwent intensive bouts of chemotherapy and radiation. He was no longer able to work. His employer keeps him on the payroll in order to keep his medical benefits, but his pay was reduced from 40 to 20 hours per week. Financial burdens became more than he could handle as he did his best to care for his niece and nephew, his sister, his mom, and lastly, himself. He has not yet been released to return to work. The therapy has left him numb from the waist down, and he has difficulty walking. He is unable to drive his car and relies on friends to transport him. He considers himself a failure for having to ask for help. We assured him that he is a hero in our eyes and we ask him to be patient – that he will beat his cancer and all will be well. We were privileged to pay his rent. What is most remarkable about Steven is that he is only 22 years old. We hope that he is able to overcome the many obstacles he is facing at such a young age. Please pray for him.
