One: We have traveled to this holy place,

ALL: to worship God together.

One: We have come seeking a word from God,

ALL: a whisper of assurance from the One who calls us.

One: We have come longing for a glimpse of God,

ALL: or a glimpse of the world the way God sees it.

One: Through our worship, music, learning, and laughter,

ALL: may God focus our sight through the lense of God’s love.

One: Let us worship God together.

In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.Silence for Personal Confession

*PrAyer of confession (All)Before we were formed in the womb, O God, you knew us and you loved us. Before we have uttered a prayer, O God, you hear us and you love us. You call us to reflect your love, to be love for one another. Too often, we are clanging cymbols, aiming for volume rather than love. Too often, we are greedy beings, searching for success rather than love. Too often, we are shallow followers, content with comfort rather than love. Forgive us, God of mercy, and love us into wholeness.

Rev. Alan Dyer

PrAyers of the PeoPle And the lord’s PrAyer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

*GloriA PAtri h.W. GreAtorex

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen.

The church confesses

the Scriptures to be the

Word of God written,

witnessing to God’s

self-revelation. Where

that Word is read and

proclaimed, Jesus Christ

the Living Word is present

by the inward witness

of the Holy Spirit. For

this reason the reading,

hearing, preaching, and

confessing of the Word

are central to Christian

worship. -PCUSA

The Confession of 1967 was

the first new confession

of faith to be adopted in

three centuries. It came

about as a result of the

turbulance of the 1960s

when churches everywhere

were challenged to restate

their faith.

*AffirmAtion of fAith (All)The reconciling work of Jesus was the supreme crisis in the life of humankind. His cross and resurrection become personal crisis and present hope for women and men when the gospel is proclaimed and believed. In this experience, the Spirit brings God’s forgiveness to all, moves people to respond in faith, repentance, and obedience, and initiates the new life in Christ.

Chancel Flowers: The Chancel flowers this morning are given to the glory of God by Bob and Lorene Reid and in loving honor of the best parent ever, Al and Joyce Ledingham.

Chancel Artwork: Stone and tile mosaics are found across the Roman world, including Israel and the early churches. The Jewish and early Christian mosaics had themes of nature and geometric shapes. During our Lenten journey towards Jerusalem, we pass through hilly country and along the seashore. We wanted to draw the congregation into the journey by creating mosaics of these everyday places that Jesus walked using an artform that Jesus would have known. Thank you to the Lent Event artists for helping to complete these mosaics, that hang over the center of the chancel.

Girl Scout Sunday: We are celebrating Girl Scout Sundaytoday in honor of Girl Scout Troop 072, which meets at St. Simons Presbyterian. The purpose of this special day is toemphasize that we take the Girl Scout Promise seriously - “On my honor, I will try to serve God.” It is a time for GirlScouts to reflect upon the importance of the words, “to serve God.”

Our Lenten Sermon Series is titled “Journey to Jerusalem.” Each Sunday in worship, we are visiting a different location that was important in the life of Christ. Through an exploration of the Biblical narrative as well as testimony from community members who traveled to the Holy Land in summer 2019, we are invited to pilgrimage together towards the hope and heartache that await Jesus at the end of the Lenten path: Jerusalem.
