Welcome to worship at St. Simons Presbyterian Church. During the announcements please take a moment to sign and pass the friendship register located at the end of the pew. As you enter the sanctuary, please silence your cell phones. All children are welcome in worship. If you prefer, a nursery (located in the children’s hall at the rear of the church) is available for children from birth to five years. Worship resources for children are available at the sanctuary entrances.
Welcome & Announcements Rev. Alan Dyer
In the call to worship we
take the opportunity
to center ourselves on
God. We have so many
distractions coming our
way, thus we take the
first opportunity in our
corporate worship service
to quiet those distractions.
The call to worship places
everything in the service,
from preaching and
worship music to various
liturgies and the call to
confession, before God in
honor and praise.
Please stand if able.*
One: Shout with joy to the Lord! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy! Know that the Lord is God!
ALL: He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
One: Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and bless his name.
ALL: For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.

In the Prayers of the
People we practice
respect for the dignity of
those in need, openness
to help even those judged
undeserving, willingness
to risk our comfort and
safety, and a readiness to
receive as well as give.

*prAyer of confession (All)God of wisdom, we confess the foolishness of our ways, and our failure to follow you in your paths of right relationships – with you and with others. We have gone astray; we feel lost. We have upheld our own interests first, to the detriment of others. We have failed to be generous with the poor, and abandoned our efforts to bring about justice. We feel the stains of our sins, God; have mercy on us according to your steadfast love. Wash the sinfulness out of us, and help us to live more faithfully as your servants. We seek your unfailing Lordship and ask for your guiding hand on our lives.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

“All the things in this
world are gifts from God,
presented to us so that we
can know God more easily
and make a return of love
more readily. As a result, we
appreciate and use all these
gifts of God insofar as they
help us to develop as loving
persons. But if any of these
gifts become the center of
our lives, they displace God
and so hinder our growth
toward our goal.”

In approving the
Confession of 1967, the
United Presbyterian
Church in the United States
of America adopted its
first new confession of
faith in three centuries.
The turbulent decade
of the 1960s challenged
churches everywhere to
restate their faith. While
the Second Vatican Council
was reformulating Roman
Catholic thought and
practice, Presbyterians
were developing the
Confession of 1967.
*AffirmAtion of fAith (All)
God’s reconciling act in Jesus Christ is a mystery which the Scriptures describe in various ways. It is called the sacrifice of a lamb, a shepherd’s life given for his sheep, atonement by a priest; again it is ransom of a slave, payment of debt, vicarious satisfaction of a legal penalty, and victory over the powers of evil. These are expressions of a truth which remains beyond the reach of all theory in the depths of God’s love for man. They reveal the gravity, cost, and sure achievement of God’s reconciling work.
