PARISH MISSION STATEMENT We are a Catholic faith community
who believes in God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit –
and who follows Christ’s teaching of love and service.
As a parish founded by immigrants, we recognize that we continue to be
a multi-ethnic parish. We welcome everyone
by ministering to their various needs and provide all with the opportunity
to grow intellectually in Christ. Through our sacramental life, we are empowered to build up
the Body of Christ and to become a more vibrant

When the fullness of time had come,
God sent his Son,
born of a woman, born under the law,
to ransom those under the law,
so that we might receive
adoption as sons.
Galatians 4:4-5

The Holy Father speaks… Joy multiplies when you share it! If we are faithful to Christ and do good works, we can spread the light of God’s hope. The Gospel invites us first of all to answer to God, who loves us and saves us, and to recognize Him in our neighbor. Hope is the virtue of a heart that does not close itself in darkness or remain locked in the past, but looks toward the future. Let us work together to find concrete solutions to help the poor, refugees, victims of modern forms of slavery, in order to promote peace. Let us find the courage to purify our hearts by removing the rocks and thorns which choke the Word of God. The more Jesus occupies the centre of our lives, the more He allows us to come out of ourselves and brings us closer to others.
But why can’t priests get married? That must be difficult.
Catholic priests do not get married so as to dedicate themselves completely to Jesus and to His people. The sacrifice of celibacy is a sign to the world that only Jesus can give us the happiness that we all crave. Giving up something as important as marriage and family is a powerful sign to the world that Jesus Christ is real! He is worth living for and sacrificing for. No, it is not easy, but neither is marriage. The fact is, every vocation requires great personal sacrifice. And there is great joy in sacrifice when it is done for Jesus and for others!
MORE TIME FOR PRAYER
Our Friday prayer time before the Blessed Sacrament in Saint Joseph Chapel begins at 9:00 am until 8:30 pm. People are encouraged to gather in prayer groups or as individuals to pray before the Eucharist. This kind of prayer is most fruitful and powerful. Can you find even ten minutes on a Friday to pray before the Lord in the Eucharist?
FIRST FRIDAY January 5th is First Friday.
Every First Friday after the 8:30 a.m. Mass, special devotions are
prayed followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. All are welcome.
Some extra moments of Eucharistic Adoration might
just be what you need.
FIRST SATURDAY January 6th is First Saturday.
Every First Saturday of the month at 8:30 a.m. in Regina Pacis there is
the celebration of the Mass in honor of St. Pio. After Mass we pray the
Rosary and Venerate of the Relic of St. Pio. All are welcome to honor our
Padre Pio.

From the Pastor's Desk..... What a great Christmas this was!! At the Masses and services we had together I could feel the positive and joyful spirit of our people in Church. The attendance at everything was larger than usual, the singing was louder, the Choir and the Children's Bell Choir made everything more beautiful. All their rehearsals paid off greatly. For this we have to offer special thanks to Mr. Jonathan Fields, our parish Director of Music. The Ushers did a fine job of organizing our large crowds. The Lectors prepared well and proclaimed the Word of God beautifully and carefully. Our Altar Servers served our Masses with precision. The Altar and the whole Basilica were so beautifully decorated thanks to Barbara Nagy, Walter Astudillo and his Children, Sammy Gonzalez, Theresa Landy and many more people. And then there is the beautiful Presepio. This was a true gift from our Priests to all of us. Months of tedious work went into building it, carving the figures, building the houses, making the moving parts and the flowing water, crafting the little town of Bethlehem, the lighting, etc. Believe me, they did it themselves and worked VERY hard to get it ready in time. We are so fortunate to have such WONDERFUL PRIESTS! In the rectory we are still reading the many Christmas cards we receive from our parishioners and we are eating through the pounds of cookies which people baked for us. I wouldn't be able to write this if I even attempted to drink the dozens of bottles of wine which we got. I guess people figured out that the way to our hearts is through our stomachs! Let me conclude this message by saying that it is truly our privilege and pleasure to serve you. No matter what challenges we face: linguistically, culturally, financially, etc. we never hesitate to do what God has asked of us. In our prayers and reflections we always try to determine what the Holy Spirit wants our parish community to become. Please be assured that we will continue to pray for you in the new year and we ask you to pray for us daily. Msgr. Ronald T. Marino Pastor

Special Security Announcement
Beginning on January 1, 2018, everyone must only use the main entrance to the Basilica on 65th Street when entering. The side doors
on 12th Avenue and on 66th Street will only be used for exiting. From the main entrance one can easily access the handicap ramp and
the elevator entrance. This is being done to have more secure control over who is entering the Basilica. The NYPD has asked all the churches to make this change.

FEAST OF
THE HOLY FAMILY
JESUS, MARY and JOSEPH
We all come from a family, but do you know who the Holy Family is?
It is Jesus, the Blessed Virgin Mary (His
mother) and St. Joseph (His foster father).
Together, this little family helps show us how to be good and obedient.
God wants us to know about
the Holy Family.
On behalf of the Faith Formation
Program, we hope all your
families had a very Merry Christmas,
blessed with joy!
Hoping your hearts are full of the promise that was born that holy night! We wish you all many blessings for a happy and healthy New Year 2018!
