Communion for Sick and Homebound Parishioners St. Rita ministers provide Communion home visits. Contact the Parish Office • 355.1292 or Jill Muhs • 355.9810 • [email protected].

Anointing of the Sick Please notify us (355.1292) as early as possible for the Anointing of the Sick, the sacrament intended for the seriously ill or dying. It is Our Lord’s special presence and companionship in serious time of need. Anointing may take place in the home, at the hospital or elsewhere and as often as once a month. If someone should die without anointing, remember that the desire to receive is sufficient and the Lord cares!

If You Should Experience the Loss of a Loved One Please call us at 355.1292 If you feel you will be in need, or your loved one has passed, we will assist in making arrangements with your chosen funeral directors; refer you to our liturgy and music directors; and offer you helpful guidelines and a book that will aid in the selection of readings for the Mass or Memorial Service. Areas we can help you with prior to the passing may help in the planning of funeral services. We know that this can be a tough time and we want you to know that your parish is there for you. PLEASE UNDERSTAND we only have one resident priest; sometimes arrangements for another priest may be needed.

SAINT RITA OF CASCIA CHURCH 3 REV. MSGR. RICHARD KREKELBERG

PASTOR’S CORNER

Dear Parishioners, Like all of us human beings you can be sure that even our Holy Father Francis, like Thomas, at different times, has asked of Jesus, “…how can we know the way?” and with Philip, “Show us the Heavenly Father.” And to the Pope and to us Jesus responds:

I am the way, the truth, and the life”; “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father—

The Father is in me and I am in the Father.”

Jesus asks us to consider his works—touching, anointing, healing, forgiving and redeeming—to find our faith. As Christians we are meant not only to place our faith in Jesus and who he is, but also to become even enthusiastic about his declaration:

…whoever believes in me will do the works I do, and will do greater works that these, because I am going to the Father.

We could not pray a better prayer for Pope Francis, or for ourselves for that matter, that the Way, the Truth, and the Life will produce in him and in all of us even greater works of reaching out, of healing and reconciling, of lasting peace, and to have an abiding desire for heaven. We pray this especially for all of our First Communicants, our Confirmation Candidates, our 2014 Graduates, and for their teachers and families in this Easter Season.

As we celebrate this Holy Eucharist together, the very core of our parish life and ministry, we should also remember that we are being CHURCH as Christ taught and called us to be. Furthermore, finding our way to the Father through his Son, and in the Holy Spirit is the same action and life that has taken place here at St. Rita for a 105 years! We stand on the shoulders of “the holy men and women who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith.” May we honor them by our own determination to build on that for which they spent their very lives. The proof, of course will not be found so much in our own generation as it will in the generations for whom we are offering our own shoulders to stand upon. (Yes, that was an unapologetic campaign pitch.)

HAPPY FEAST DAY EVERYONE!

This week we celebrate here our “patronal” feast day to boot. In our patroness, St. Rita of Cascia, do we not have an excellent role model to follow and intercede for us? Certainly we may look to her as one who lived the experience of being an obedient young daughter, devoted wife, dedicated mother, and vowed religious, to know how we might also have the courage in Christ “to do the works that he did” and to live and love everyday his way, his truth, and his life. We pray God’s abundant blessings upon our St. Rita Faith Community and upon all who come to honor our Patroness on her feast day this May 22nd, 2014. —Msgr. Richard
