Communion for Sick and Homebound Parishioners St. Rita ministers provide Communion home visits. Contact the Parish Office (355.1292) or Jill Muhs • 355.9810 • [email protected].

Anointing of the Sick Please notify us (355.1292) as early as possible for the Anointing of the Sick, the sacrament intended for the seriously ill or dying. It is Our Lord’s special presence and companionship in serious time of need. Anointing may take place in the home, at the hospital or elsewhere and as often as once a month. If someone should die without anointing, remember that the desire to receive is sufficient and the Lord cares!

If You Should Experience the Loss of a Loved One Please call us at 355.1292 If you feel you will be in need, or your loved one has passed, we will assist in making arrangements with your chosen funeral directors; refer you to our liturgy and music directors; and offer you helpful guidelines and a book that will aid in the selection of readings for the Mass or Memorial Service. Areas we can help you with prior to the passing may help in the planning of funeral services. We know that this can be a tough time and we want you to know that your parish is there for you. PLEASE UNDERSTAND we only have one resident priest, sometimes arrangements for another priest may be needed.

SAINT RITA OF CASCIA CHURCH P-3 REV. MSGR. RICHARD KREKELBERG

PASTOR’S CORNER

Dear Parishioners, Why would it be, as Jesus declares in today’s gospel passage, that “no prophet is accepted in his native place”? “Is this not the son of Joseph?” they ask; in other words, “Doesn’t he put his pants on one leg at a time just like the rest of us?” Not only do the people in Jesus’ home town fail to see beyond the familiar, but when he compares them to widows and lepers passed over by God for their complacency, they plot to at least do harm to him if not outright kill him. So much for “love thy neighbor.” Speaking of love, this is the proclamation of the famous and cherished passage we heard from St. Paul’s “Letter to the Corinthians” today as our second reading. Not by accident but by providence it holds the key to understanding the resolution of the predicament presented in the gospel. Jesus’ neighbors have clearly become jaded in their attitude and ability to perceive God’s action in their lives; they have ceased “to strive eagerly for the spiritual gifts” and to embrace “the more excellent way”—the way of love. Love, the virtue above all others, is what enables us to rise above complacency, prejudice, and the danger of becoming jaded against God’s desire to relate to us and enter our daily lives. This Sunday, then, let us “strive eagerly” to understand where “the spiritual gifts” need to be applied in our lives and where love would obviously be “the more excellent way” to handle life’s challenges. What do the words of scriptures say to us today about the world’s problems, about how we could improve as part of “the free world” in our United States, or how we might benefit from applying spiritual gifts and “the more excellent way” to life at home, school, and work?

—Prayerfully with you, Msgr. Richard

Faith, hope, and love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love. —1 Corinthians 13:13

AND

What is EVENING PRAYER at St. Rita?

Have you ever had moments when your heart was deeply burdened, either for yourself or for someone you love, but you didn’t know how to pray? You just could not find words to express the aches or longings deep within. At such moments, the Church comes to our aid, and,

drawing from her rich prayer tradition shaped profoundly by Scripture itself, we are given words for the deepest desires of the human heart. This is the prayer of the Church, which we offer together at Evening Prayer. Come enjoy a time of quiet meditation with gentle music in the background before the prayer time.

Hospitality Sundays

A formal policy regarding Hospitality Sunday (coffee and donuts and fellowship), as decreed by Monsignor Richard:

“Please join us for donuts and coffee after all non-rainy Sunday Masses from this day forward. It’s a great way to meet your fellow parishioners and have some fun.”

Welcome, Steven! If you’ve noticed a new face around our campus, it is likely to be Steven Antoine, our new weekend maintenance person. A St. Rita Parishioner, Steven has been volunteering for some time. Now as a paid Staff member, Steven makes sure the church is spruced up for the weekend, that our halls are in good shape, that our lawns are mowed, leaves removed, and more. Welcome!

ST. RITA OF CASCIA CHURCH P-7 Are you a registered Member at St. Rita?

Registering in a parish is a declaration of your desire to be part of a Catholic community and a commitment to the life of the parish family. Being a registered parishioner is a requirement for infant baptism, school registration, weddings, when asked to be a baptismal or confirmation sponsor, and even funerals. Additionally, if you are not registered, a yearly tax receipt cannot be issued since any donations you make to the parish throughout the year are entered as “5002/visitors” since you have no unique ID number in our database.

Registration forms available in the Vestibule or please contact the Parish Office 355-1292 • [email protected]

2012 Tax Donation Acknowledgments

If you are a registered parishioner you may request a letter to acknowledge your total 2012 donations to St. Rita for tax purposes. PLEASE NOTE: Registered parishioners are those who have filled out a Registration Form and have been assigned an ID/envelope number.

You may request a letter by sending your full name, address, and parish ID/envelope number (if known) to

[email protected]

or fill out the form below and drop it in the Sunday Offering or mail to the Parish Office, Attn: RC.

NO requests will be taken over the telephone.
