Dear Parents
You are warmly invited to the Mass of the Assumption
being held at the church on Friday at 10am.
This week our journey towards Stage 6 progresses
with representatives travelling to Newcastle to visit
MacKillop College, a very successful Catholic K-12
school.
Thank you for supporting the anniversary
commemorations last week which saw members of our
school family actively participating in many elements –
there were some very significant historical events
created in Cowra thanks to the excellent work of
community minded organizers.
Thank you representative athletes, their families, Mr
Thomas, Mr O’Reilly, Mr Statham and Mr Maher who
enabled our school to perform so well at the Dio
athletics.
Best wishes to Year 6 in conducting our first ever
dedicated Confirmation Retreat day tomorrow. This is
a most important opportunity to make it to work well for
the candidates. Then, of course, there is the big event
at 6pm on Saturday evening – please attend, pray for
and support.
Milkcrate Events (Mon / Tue) began this morning,
Passport to Paris Art Exhibition (Wed) and Le Cabaret
(Thurs) will complete this engaging and impressive
sequence of creative and artistic events this week.
Congratulations to students and staff members on the
enormous investment of work and creativity that
enables such wonderful displays to happen. The pride,
collaboration and engagement flowing from these
occasions is a true blessing for our school. – thank
you.
The National Data Entry project concludes today –
Congratulations to Mrs Johnston on managing such an
enormous and important task for the support of our
children’s learning. Additionally, IEP Meetings will be
held tomorrow and Ms Mel Fuller Autism consultant
will be at the school.
The annual ICAS Mathematics Competition is being
held tomorrow for the extension of talented students.
Thank you for the loyalty and support you give to our
St Raphael’s family for the sake of our children –
together we can achieve the extraordinary for them.

Library News MEMORABILIA DISPLAY Currently we have in our Library Archive cabinet a display of items lent to us by the family of Private Alfred Rolls from his service days at the Cowra POW Camp. Thank you very much to the Rolls family for allowing the students to view and reflect on these historical items; especially after the amazing Cowra Breakout celebrations of the last week. PREMIER READING CHALLENGE Students need to pass on their updated reading lists to me for the 2014 entry. Students remember to see me to check your borrowing list and have parents sign your reading lists. CHESS CLUB Term 3 is when years three and four become familiar with Chess at Wednesday lunchtime. Students from year two who wish to play chess are welcome as well. The chess competition is in Term 4 so these games allow students to experience playing with a variety of students; and learn their strategies as well! BOOK WEEK PARADE Students need to research their choice of character for our Book Week parade in Week 6. If they need inspiration the shelves of the Library are a good start. The theme for 2014 is Connect to Reading and our library has a great range of new books to allow our students to do exactly that. MS READATHON Students can see me to access details for MS Readathon 2014 entry. Kerri Skinner Librarian Primary Assembly
The next primary assembly will be held next Friday, 22
nd August. It will be led by Mrs Twohill-Scott’s class,
Year 1SO. If your son / daughter is to receive a class award a note will be sent home early next week. Parents are always most welcome to attend any primary assembly. This Friday, 15
th August a catch-up assembly will be
held. Students who have missed receiving awards in
previous weeks and some Year 6 students who
missed delivering speeches will present their speech
this week.

Outward Bound Many thanks to Cowra Services Club Manager, Mr Lloyd Garratt for making the time to come to our assembly and for your generous support of Outward Bound 2014. We thank you for your words and time!
“Passport to Paris” Ooh, la la.. Our "Passport to Paris" week has arrived! Please join us this Wednesday to open our exhibition and participate in the K-10 art auction.
Festivities begin at 6pm in the St Raphaels hall. Gold coin entry. Free drinks and canapés organised by our master-chef, Mrs Bischof, and her capable students. The following night, Thursday 14th, Mrs Swansborough will delight us with a mixed evening of entertainment, whilst Mrs Bischof and her team will provide a 3 course meal. A few tickets are still available from the front office – but hurry before they are sold out! The exhibition is also open to visitors on Wednesday from 12- 4.00pm. This week has been 6 months of preparation and planning by our students, their teachers and volunteer parents. An exciting addition is the workshopping and building of the "Eiffel Tower" by Sydney based Milkcrate Events. What a treat! Please join in the enthusiasm and support your children, and teachers, in a celebration of all aspects of the arts.
“Eat Fresh and Win”:
This is a campaign to encourage primary children to
bring or buy fresh fruit / vegetables to school. It
involves teachers and canteen staff issuing stickers to
children with fresh fruit / vegetables. The campaign
runs over five weeks starting in week 6. Crunch and
Sip time will be where teachers will issue stickers, the
rest of the time will be done through the canteen.
Stickers are attached by the children to entry forms
and they receive a minor prize from Donna and go into
a draw for one of the major prizes.
Donna will get the entry forms and stickers circulated
this week to staff in preparation for a start next week.
Please look out for the forms in your child’s bag next
week.

NEW to the canteen: Smoothies - only $1.60 each and available in Strawberry and Banana, Banana and Honey and Tropical. HELP NEEDED IN THE CANTEEN URGENTLY. Due to a change in circumstances for some of my helpers, I am down 4 people who came fairly frequently this term and next term there are some changes too. Unfortunately this has had an adverse effect on the roster so I am looking for more people to put on the roster now and for the future, especially for Thursdays and Fridays. So if you could help please fill out the form at the end of the newsletter. Thank you to all those helpers who have given so much of their time – all your help has been very much appreciated.
