Girls’ Touch Football Trials On the 18th of March, an all girls’ touch football team travelled to Forbes for an outing to remember. With 10 players at hand and Mr Cooley's calm, constructive coaching style there was nothing that could stand in their way! Many highlights were encountered throughout the day. With play makers proving their knowledge, sprinters racing down the sidelines and everyone giving it there best shot, great enjoyment were experienced by all team members. Mackenzie and Holly heroically covered the centre. Their efforts at fast plays paid off as metres were gained continuously. Maddie's majestical dives that saved numerous tries were praised by team members. She proved that with more guts there was more glory and definitely more grass rashes! As Michelle's miraculous wing power impressed team members, she wasn't valued by the opposition, ploughing through their defences countless times, with her immense speed. Katie was keen to take the ball and grew more excited with every play. Her enthusiasm and eagerness was

admired by everyone. With her smile never fading, her enjoyment lifted the team. India's impressively intense ball skills were helpful in critical situations. Her continuous energy and positive attitude was inspirational. Cassie's courageous efforts were valued by the team. As a new player, her eagerness to learn was tremendous. Hannah's helpful encouragement was appreciated by team members. Her work in the centre alongside Olivia and India assisted the team to make quick plays and set up numerous tries. Olivia's optimism and motivation was invigorating. Her persistence at making each run was beneficial to the entire team. Antonia's attitude towards the game and her team members was elevating and as a new player also, her efforts are to be commended. The team was pleased with their efforts on the field and were happy with the final results of each game. The girls would all like to thanks Mr Cooley and Mr Jeffries for taking their time to support the team and the parents who transported them to their destinations. Without their help the day would not have been as enjoyable.

U’ 15’s Boy’s Diocesan Touch Football Trials Last Tuesday nine boys participated in the U 15’s Diocesan Touch Football trials. Great talent was shown on the day with many exemplary feats made. John Terry, Mac Cusack and Riley Barron ran down several opposition players, showing tireless commitment to the team. The Mids- Matt Wilkinson, Riley Barron and Joe Waters- were ever present and repeatedly took the ball up and over the advantage line, creating space for outside players. The Links- Mitchell Beer, Jack Thurtell and Mac Cusack- used their footwork and ball skills to make gaps and set up varying plays which benefitted the St Raphael’s team with many metres and tries. The Wings- Aiden Roberts, John Terry and Zac Ashton- finished the team’s effort by making spectacular dashes down the sideline and quick, accurate tries. Riley and Jack performed well enough to proceed to the possible and probables which was hotly contested by many skilled players, most of them 15 years old.

Athletics Carnival is coming! Thursday 10th April, is our school Athletics Carnival. Fingers crossed the weather clears up and we have a lovely clear day. This year, like last, we will be conducting the carnival in a circuit like fashion, where student of the same age group rotate through each of the events in half hour slots. Owing to additional demands this places on staff, we would greatly appreciate as many helper parents as we can get for the day. If you're able, please contact Mr Steven Thomas at the school so we can allocate a position. As a parent you are more than welcome to visit on the day and spectate and travel around the circuit with your child's group. Timing of the events are structured and will be adhered to strictly. The schedule will appear in next week’s newsletter. Primary Polding Swimming Carnival On Friday 28

th March, 8 Primary Students travelled to

Sydney to swim at the 2014 Polding Swimming Championships. The swimmers were: Pip Austin, William Austin, Ky Johnson, Sam Kelly, Finn Ryan, Joe Sullivan, Ben Varela and Phoebe Varela. Between them, these students represented the Bathurst Diocese in every stroke and in the Senior Boys’ Freestyle relay. While no one achieved a place, there were a number of top 10 finishes, plenty of personal best times and Sam Kelly came close to advancing to the next level with a 5

th place in the 50m Breaststroke.

However by far the most remarkable performance was from Jane Gillham, the Head Coach of the Cowra Stingrays, who travelled to Sydney in her own time and on her own steam to support and coach the students to achieve their remarkable results. All swimmers and their parents were so appreciative of her dedication, encouragement and expertise and there is no doubt her help with warm ups and words of wisdom were instrumental in the fabulous results on the day.

The Go4Fun program is a free program to support children

aged 7-13 to develop long lasting healthy lifestyle habits. Some parents find it difficult to motivate children outside school and structured activities. It’s a common problem that sometimes parents think they are buying healthy food when they are not, because of aggressive, clever marketing on labels. Go4Fun offers great education and support for parents and kids to arm them with the knowledge they need to lead healthier lives. The program helps families manage their lifestyle for the long term. Programs are very interactive and great fun. Families learn to read labels, change poor behaviours and enjoy food more. The 6 key behaviours to consider, to reduce and prevent childhood overweight are;

Reduce the amount of high calorie, nutrition poor foods they eat

Increase how much fruit & vegetable your child eats

Reduce the amount of sugary drinks they have

Reduce TV and computer time

Increase the amount of moderate to vigorous play and sport they do

Increase walking, cycling and incidental exercise Parenting becomes much more fun when families are on the same page around improved lifestyle. Go4Fun can help you achieve these goals easily! For more information on how you can participate you can; Visit www.go4fun.com.au.
