FROM THE PASTOR… Dear Parishioners, Some clarifications concerning our parish 150th Anni-versary Mass on the last Sunday of September. (See the notice elsewhere in this bulletin.) Because it is such a milestone event for us, that noon Mass will be the only Mass here that day. There will be no 8 am or 11 am English, 9:45 am Korean or 12:30 pm Spanish services that Sunday. There will, however, be the usual Saturday 5:00 pm Anticipation Mass on September 28th for those unable to attend the Sunday event. The Anniversary Mass will be followed by the entire congregation processing to our leased school building on 37th Street for a catered meal and a variety entertainment program. Those of you who have not seen the inte-rior of the former Sty. Raphael School since the City of New York poured millions into the edifice will be surprised by the transformations. By the way, on Tuesdays from now until September 29th, there will be Anniver-sary Planning Sessions at 7:00 pm in Michael Brennan Hall. The meetings are for our Parish Council members, Pastoral Ministers and trustees. On another issue: some of you may have noticed what seem to be newly-damaged areas to the sides and rear of our church building. These are actually delib-erate soundings being made of how easily removable the stucco brick-face treatment is from the original brick, so that we can determine the best way to move forward on the exterior walls project. While the church walls areas are not surprise damage, we did have some real damage (in early July) to the storage container in the parking lot behind the church. Some graffiti taggers couldn’t resist what looked like an empty canvas and drew all over one side of the shed. They left their signature: CIW, which stands for Coney Is-land Warriors, according to the NYPD responders. This type of thing happened once previously in my time (maybe ten years ago). Being careful about keeping our lot gates shut after hours, the police reminded us, needs to be a priority.
