FROM THE PASTOR… Dear Parishioners, We welcome you back to on-site Sunday Mass with a congregation! We missed you during our enforced “fast” from the Eucharist. Pope Francis recently reminded us that electronic liturgies (TV, Facebook, You Tube, etc .) may provide some spiritual nourishment, but they are not “church”. Church means coming together in the actual presence of one another to share the Word and the Sacrament. A big thank-you to the wonderful team of volunteers who spent most of last Saturday in church, scrubbing and cleaning and polishing our house of worship in preparation for this return. By now, most of you are aware of the pandemic protocols required for our church services: a maximum 25% allowable capacity (= about 110 persons limit for St. Raphael’s); face masks; hand sanitizing; social distancing; no after-Mass gatherings, etc. These are not only rules promulgated by Bishop DiMarzio, but also public health norms of our city and state. We need to uphold all of them. Our church air-conditioning units have just been serviced, and all the filters cleaned. You may notice a couple of windows open while the A.C. is running. This is not a waste of the cool air, but a deliberate effort to allow a bit more fresh-air intake for hygienic reasons. Speaking of air-conditioning, we usually ask a $50 donation per parish family in the summer to help cover the considerable cost of prepping and running this utility. Please remember to lend a hand on any weekend in July or August for this purpose. I am deeply grateful to all who remembered parish support during the 3 1/2 months of the church closure. We suffered significant financial loss, not only in regular and special (Easter!) col-lections, but also in Flea Markets, ethnic gatherings, and other fundraisers. If you were not someone who supported the parish during those months, a little extra generosity on your part these days would help a lot. Thank you. -Father Jerry Jecewiz

CAUTION

A scam that has previously occurred is again targeting the people of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Parishioners are receiving text mes-sages purportedly from their pastors or priests. that say they “need a favor” from the parish-ioner. They go on to say that the priest needs money and may go on to ask for gift cards. Be aware this is a scam.

CATHOLIC MIGRATI0N SERVICES

In light of the Supreme Court’s decision about the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program, Catholic Migration Services has posted a video on their Facebook page about what the decision means and what is next for the DACA program. One video is in English, the other is Spanish. The link is: https://www.facebook.com/cmsbq

REMINDER While many have been cleaning out their closets and dressers in the pandemic, remember that there is no collection of clothing at this time. Receptacles for this purpose at public sites have been removed or sealed off during the pandemic. Any bags of clothing left at the church are simply discarded. We are told never to accept clothing because we are a food distribution site (Pantry).

INDEPENDENCE DAY WEEKEND PRAYER FOR THE U.S.A.

God of justice and Lord of all, you guide all creation with fatherly care.

On this Independence Day, we recall the day when our country claimed its place among

the family of nations.

You reveal that those who work for peace will be called your sons and daugh-

ters.

Continue to send your Spirit to touch the hearts and minds of all who cherish the rights

to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

And as you have called us to be one nation, grant that

under your providence our country may share your

blessings with all the peoples of the earth.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

1. Our rectory office is now opened again (Mon.-Thurs. 9 am to 4 pm, with a summer adjustment on Fridays: 9 am to 2 pm.

2. Congrats to Hazel and Mo Asca on their 10th Wedding Anniversary this week! Continued blessings!
