Living Our Faith…. Parish Pastoral Ministry Today’s Gospel tells us that the kingdom of God is at hand. Even in the middle of war and injustice, the kingdom is at hand, we don’t

need to understand it, we need to live according to the values of the kingdom. The first reading gives us some of those values. We are to

live like the Master of the Kingdom, showing care, leniency, clemency, justice, and kindness that instill in others hope, rather than de-

spair, fecundity rather than barrenness, and the desire to do good rather than evil.

In Chapter 7 of the book “Embracing the Way o Jesus” Pope Francis writes about giving the gift of dignity (p. 49). We can feed people to

satisfy their hunger but we must work for justice to feed a deeper hunger present in all people, the hunger for dignity. He even reminds us

that on the issue of immigration and refugees, we must “respond in a way that is always humane, just, and fraternal. We must avoid the

common temptation nowadays to discard whatever proves troublesome remembering the Golden Rule…..” (p.52).

Altar Servers: We will have a training session for all the Altar Servers, and those that wish to be an Altar Server, on Saturday, July 29,

2017 at 9:30am in the Church. We invite you to join us in this important service if you have already received communion for the first

time.

Conference room at 7:00 pm. If you have any interest in vocations you are invited to join us. We also invite anyone who is

interested in bringing vocation awareness to the parish to please, bring your ideas as we begin this new committee.

We invite you to pray for vocations within our community and at the same time we join to pray for the transitional Deacons

and seminarians. Following is a short prayer along with a seminarian’s name. Each week you will find a different name in

the bulletin. Let’s pray for them daily.

Loving and Generous God, it is You who call us by name and ask us to follow You.

Help us to grow in the Love and Service of our Church as we experience it today.

Give us the energy and courage of Your Spirit to shape its future

Grant us faith-filled leaders who will embrace Christ's Mission of love and justice.

Bless the Church of St. Pius V by raising up dedicated and generous leaders from our families and friends who will serve Your people as Sis-

ters, Priests, Brothers, Deacons and Lay Ministers.

Inspire us to know You better and open our hearts to hear Your call, as seminarian Primus Bela, has done.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Se esta organizando un Comité para las vocaciones y están invitados a participar en nuestro primer reunion el 18 de julio 2017 en
PLC Conference Rooma las 7:00 pm. Si usted tiene cualquier interés en las vocaciones están invitados a unirse a nosotros. También in-
vitamos a cualquiera que esté interesado en llevar la conciencia de la vocación a la parroquia, que traigan sus ideas al comenzar este nue-
vo Comité.
Te invitamos a orar por las vocaciones en nuestra comunidad y al mismo tiempo nos juntamos para orar para los diáconos de transición y
seminaristas. Siguiente es una breve oración junto con el nombre de un seminarista. Cada semana encontrarás un nombre diferente en el
boletín. Vamos a orar por ellos todos los días.
Amadísimo y generoso Dios, Eres Tú quien nos llama por nuestro nombre y nos pides que te sigamos.
Ayúdanos a crecer en el amor y en el servicio a nuestra Iglesia.
Danos el entusiasmo y la energía de tu Espíritu para preparar su futuro.
Danos líderes llenos de fe que abracen la misión de Cristo en amor y en justicia.
Bendice la Iglesia de San Pio V con líderes de nuestras familias que dediquen sus vidas al servicio de su pueblo como religiosas, sacerdotes,
religiosos, diáconos y ministros laicos.
Inspíranos a conocerte mejor y abre nuestros corazones para oír tu llamada, como lo hizo el seminarista Primus Bela, Te lo pedimos por
Cristo Nuestro Señor. Amén!
16th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Viviendo nuestra fe,,,, Pastoral Social Parroquial El Evangelio de hoy nos dice que el reino de Dios está cerca. Incluso en medio de la guerra y la injusticia, el reino está cerca, no necesita-
mos entenderlo, tenemos que vivir de acuerdo con los valores del reino. La primera lectura nos da algunos de esos valores. Debemos vi-
vir como el Maestro del Reino, mostrando el cuidado, la indulgencia, la clemencia, la justicia y la bondad que inculcan en los demás la
esperanza, más que la desesperación, la fecundidad más que la esterilidad, y el deseo de hacer el bien en lugar del mal.
En el capítulo 7 del libro, Abrazando el camino de Jesús, el Papa Francisco escribe sobre el don de la dignidad (p.49). Podemos alimentar
a las personas para satisfacer su hambre, pero debemos trabajar por la justicia para alimentar un hambre más profunda presente en todas
las personas, el hambre de la dignidad. Incluso nos recuerda que en el tema de la inmigración y los refugiados, debemos "responder de
una manera siempre humana, justa y fraterna. Debemos evitar la tentación común hoy en día de descartar lo que resulte problemático
recordando la Regla de Oro ...” (p.52).
Monaguillos: Habrá un entrenamiento para todos los monaguillos (Altar Servers) y los que están interesados en servir como monagui-
llos. El entrenamiento es el sábado, 29 de julio del 2017 a las 9:30am en la Iglesia. Los invitamos a servir en este importante ministerio si
han ya comulgado por primera vez.
Work Day—Saturday, August 5th, 7:30am til 2:30pm the school and church
will be cleaning inside and out...from Harris St to Marvick St. including inside the church. If you would like to help, pick up a blue form from the brochure rack at the front entrance of the church, fill it out and put in the collection or drop in the mail slot near the church office entrance.
El sábado, 5 de agosto, la escuela ha programado un Día Brillante de 7:30a.m. hasta las 2:30p.m., para limpiar por dentro y por fuera. Así que la iglesia también programará el día de trabajo para ayudar en la escuela y para limpiar los terrenos de la parroquia, (de Harris a Marvick) y hacer algunas reparaciones / reemplazos dentro de la iglesia. Si puede ayudar, llame a la oficina y deje su nombre y número, o recoja una forma azul del bastidor de folletos en la entrada de la iglesia, llénelo y colóquelo en la colección o colóquelo en la ranura de correo cerca de la entrada de la oficina. Gracias.
16th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Find the Missal (Ordinary of the Mass) at 150 in Oramos Cantando/We Pray in Song
First Reading Wis 12:13, 16-19
There is no god besides you who have the care of all, that you need show you have not unjustly condemned. For your might is the source
of justice; your mastery over all things makes you lenient to all. For you show your might when the perfection of your power is
disbelieved; and in those who know you, you rebuke temerity. But though you are master of might, you judge with clemency, and with
much lenience you govern us; for power, whenever you will, attends you. And you taught your people, by these deeds, that those who are
just must be kind; and you gave your children good ground for hope that you would permit repentance for their sins.
Responsorial Psalm Ps 86 R. Lord, you are good and forgiving.
Second Reading Rom 8:26-27
Brothers and sisters: The Spirit comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself
intercedes with inexpressible groanings. And the one who searches hearts knows what is the intention of the Spirit, because he intercedes
for the holy ones according to God's will.
Gospel Mt 13:24-30 Jesus proposed another parable to the crowds, saying: "The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man who sowed
good seed in his field. While everyone was asleep his enemy came and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off. When the
crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as well. The slaves of the householder came to him and said, 'Master, did you not sow good
seed in your field? Where have the weeds come from?' He answered, 'An enemy has done this.' His slaves said to him, 'Do you want us to
go and pull them up?' He replied, 'No, if you pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them. Let them grow together
until harvest; then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters, "First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the
wheat into my barn."
El Misal (Ordinario de la Misa) esta en Oramos Cantando/We Pray in Song a Partir de 150 Primera lectura Sab 12, 13. 16-19
No hay más Dios que tú, Señor, que cuidas de todas las cosas. No hay nadie a quien tengas que rendirle cuentas de la justicia de tus
sentencias. Tu poder es el fundamento de tu justicia, y por ser el Señor de todos, eres misericordioso con todos. Tú muestras tu fuerza a
los que dudan de tu poder soberano y castigas a quienes, conociéndolo, te desafían. Siendo tú el dueño de la fuerza, juzgas con
misericordia y nos gobiernas con delicadeza, porque tienes el poder y lo usas cuando quieres. Con todo esto has enseñado a tu pueblo
que el justo debe ser humano, y has llenado a tus hijos de una dulce esperanza, ya que al pecador le das tiempo para que se arrepienta.
Salmo Responsorial Salmo 85 R. Tú, Señor, eres bueno y clemente.
Segunda lectura Rom 8, 26-27
Hermanos: El Espíritu nos ayuda en nuestra debilidad, porque nosotros no sabemos pedir lo que nos conviene; pero el Espíritu mismo
intercede por nosotros con gemidos que no pueden expresarse con palabras. Y Dios, que conoce profundamente los corazones, sabe lo
que el Espíritu quiere decir, porque el Espíritu ruega, conforme a la voluntad de Dios, por los que le pertenecen.
Evamgelio Mt 13, 24-30
En aquel tiempo, Jesús propuso esta otra parábola a la muchedumbre: "El Reino de los cielos se parece a un hombre que sembró buena
semilla en su campo; pero mientras los trabajadores dormían, llegó un enemigo del dueño, sembró cizaña entre el trigo y se marchó.
Cuando crecieron las plantas y se empezaba a formar la espiga, apareció también la cizaña. Entonces los trabajadores fueron a decirle al
amo: 'Señor, ¿qué no sembraste buena semilla en tu campo? ¿De dónde, pues, salió esta cizaña?' El amo les respondió: 'De seguro lo hizo
un enemigo mío'. Ellos le dijeron: '¿Quieres que vayamos a arrancarla?' Pero él les contestó: 'No. No sea que al arrancar la cizaña,
arranquen también el trigo. Dejen que crezcan juntos hasta el tiempo de la cosecha y, cuando llegue la cosecha, diré a los segadores:
Arranquen primero la cizaña y átenla en gavillas para quemarla; y luego almacenen el trigo en mi granero' ".
Dear brothers and sisters,
In less than a month the children will be returning to school at St. Pius V, but there is still time to make a life-changing, life-affirming decision
for your own children. Catholic Schools provide excellent education in an environment which respects each individual person and, above all,
provides a foundation in faith. The lessons learned at St. Pius V Catholic School are lessons for life, lessons which bear fruit not only in this
world, but in eternity. There is no greater gift that we can give our children than the knowledge and love of God. St. Pius V Catholic School is
here to help you make that gift a reality.
Speaking of school, I will begin an on-line degree program at Catholic University of America this Fall which requires that I be on-campus in
Washington, DC for the week of August 6th. Fr. Lazo will also be on vacation at that time. I will be here for the Sunday masses but away
Monday through Friday which will require some changes to the weekday masses. We will announce the schedule changes next week. Again,
this will only affect the daily mass schedule.
Fr. Jan Kubisa, Chaplain at the Seafarer’s Center, is in residence at St. Pius V and would be available in extreme emergency if and when his
duties at the Seafarer’s Center allow. Otherwise, we will not have a priest in the parish during that week. Of course, our Deacons are also
available.
May God bless us all as we enjoy these summer months and prepare for the beginning of the new school year.
Fr. Joe
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Queridos hermanos y hermanas,

P. Joe

Come & help on Saturday, August 5th—7:30am — 2:30pm This is a joint effort to bring the parish and school together for a workday — Bring your tools: hammer, screwdriver, saw, gloves, & yard tools or other equipment you need and let’s go to work! There’s a lot to be done before school and Faith Formation begin! So if you’re not on vacation or out of town on August 5th, please consider pitching in and help-ing—you can earn service hours too! Things planned to do: clean all the flower beds in front of the school and PLC, clean around the new storage bldg. and behind Maintenance garage, remove overgrowth from fences, possibly tear down the old festival garage (if we get enough help). (If you have any questions, call Alice at 713-473-9484) Yes I would like to help on August 5th: Name ____________________________________________________________________ Phone ____________________________________________________________________
