First Reading GN 9:8-15 God said to Noah and to his sons with him: "See, I am now establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you

and with every living creature that was with you: all the birds, and the various tame and wild animals that were with you and

came out of the ark. I will establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all bodily creatures be destroyed by the waters of

a flood; there shall not be another flood to devastate the earth." God added: "This is the sign that I am giving for all ages to come,

of the covenant between me and you and every living creature with you: I set my bow in the clouds to serve as a sign of the

covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth, and the bow appears in the clouds, I will recall the

covenant I have made between me and you and all living beings, so that the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all

mortal beings."

Living Our Faith….. Parish Social Ministry Every year we start Lent in the desert. Mark’s account follows immediately after Jesus’ Baptism. This is a time of

contemplation and discernment regarding what Jesus is to do. This is a place where there is no consolation and

Jesus is immediately tempted. Mark is intent in telling us that Jesus was tempted by Satan for he was fully human

and experienced temptation just as we do. In this, he is a model for us. Though we may experience desolation,

God is with us in our trials.

Cada año comenzamos la Cuaresma en el desierto. La cuenta de Marcos sigue inmediatamente después del

Bautismo de Jesús. Este es un tiempo de contemplación y discernimiento con respecto a lo que Jesús debe hacer.

Este es un lugar donde no hay consuelo y Jesús es tentado de inmediato. Marcos tiene la intención de decirnos que

Jesús fue tentado por Satanás porque él era totalmente humano y experimentó la tentación tal como nosotros lo

Opportunities for different ministries: We are trying to develop two different ministries to our community. The first

ministry is to create teams of volunteers that will make home visits to infirm and homebound parishioners. This is a great

opportunity for a parent to take a preadolescent and teenage son or daughter to visit some of our homebound brothers and

sisters. Please let JP know if you are interested.

Oportunidades para diferentes ministerios: estamos tratando de desarrollar dos ministerios diferentes para nuestra

comunidad. El primer ministerio es crear equipos de voluntarios que realizarán visitas domiciliarias a enfermos y feligreses

confinados en sus hogares. Esta es una gran oportunidad para que un padre lleve a un hijo o hija preadolescente y

adolescente a visitar a algunos de nuestros hermanos y hermanas confinados a su hogar. Informe a JP si está interesado.

The other ministry is for funerals. We need a team that will work with our clergy as sacristans, servers, lectors, ministers

of the Eucharist, and choir. This is also a very important ministry. Most families cannot take charge of liturgical needs at this

time and would greatly appreciate our community providing the ministers we need. Other times, it is a great opportunity to

evangelize as they witness our involvement as we minister to their needs.

El otro ministerio es para funerales. Necesitamos un equipo que trabaje con nuestro clero como sacristanes, servidores,

lectores, ministros de la Eucaristía y coro. Este es también un ministerio muy importante. La mayoría de las familias no

pueden hacerse cargo de las necesidades litúrgicas en este momento y agradecerían enormemente a nuestra comunidad al

proporcionar los ministros que necesitamos. En otras ocasiones, es una gran oportunidad para evangelizar al ser testigos con

Volunteers needed—If you would like to volunteer to help at the Festival on April 29th,

(there are many areas to choose from) please pick up a form today, at the front entrance of the

church, fill it out and hand to someone with the Festival Committee on the patio or drop in the

collection or the mail slot at the parish office. We need many volunteers to help the day be-

fore the festival to set up and the day of the festival for many areas and at the end of the day

to help clean up.

This Sun. evening at St. Helen Church (Pearland), at the Rite of Election, representatives from St. Pius V Church will present 9 Catechumens and 2 Candidates for Full Communion to Bishop Shcltz. This group is beginning final preparation for the sacraments at Easter Vigil – please pray for them daily during Lent! Este Domingo en la Iglesia de Sta. Elena (Pearland), unos

representantes de San Pío V van a presentar 9 Catecúmenos y 2 Candidatos al Obispo Sheltz al Rito de Elección. Ellos comienzan su preparación final para celebrar los sacramentos en la Vigilia Pascual. ¡Favor de rezar para este grupo diariamente durante la Cuaresma!

Save the date…to clean up the grounds for Easter and for the Festival...We

have scheduled a work day for Saturday, March 24th….8:30 am until 3pm. We will do major tree

and hedge cutting/trimming, cleaning around the gym, around the storage building, Parish Life

Center and school buildings. We will need a large group to get all of this accomplished so please

plan to come and help. If you need service hours—this is the time to come and help. Bring your

gloves and yard tools!

If you plan to come and volunteer and/or would like to provide food or drink for the volunteers, please
