First Reading Is 50:5-9a The Lord GOD opens my ear that I may hear; and I have not rebelled, have not turned back. I gave my back to those who beat me, my
cheeks to those who plucked my beard; my face I did not shield from buffets and spitting.
The Lord GOD is my help, therefore I am not disgraced; I have set my face like flint, knowing that I shall not be put to shame. He is
near who upholds my right; if anyone wishes to oppose me, let us appear together. Who disputes my right? Let that man confront me.
See, the Lord GOD is my help; who will prove me wrong?
Responsorial Psalm Ps 116 R. I will walk before the Lord, in the land of the living.
Second Reading Jas 2:14-18
What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or
sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well, ” but you
do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead. Indeed someone
might say, “You have faith and I have works.” Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will demonstrate my faith to you
from my works.
Gospel Mk 8:27-35
Jesus and his disciples set out for the villages of Caesarea Philippi. Along the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I
am?” They said in reply, “John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others one of the prophets.” And he asked them, “But who do you say
that I am?” Peter said to him in reply, “You are the Christ.” Then he warned them not to tell anyone about him.
He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be
killed, and rise after three days. He spoke this openly. Then Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. At this he turned around
and, looking at his disciples, rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan. You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings
do.” He summoned the crowd with his disciples and said to them, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his
cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and that of the gospel will save it.”
¿Quién me acusa?
Supongamos
que algún hermano o hermana carece de ropa y del alimento necesario para el día, y que uno de ustedes le dice: “Que te vaya bien;

24th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear friends,
Last week, on Labor Day Weekend, many of you heard me speak about how we are called to be Laborers in the Vineyard of the Lord.
We need many hands, hearts, and minds to bring this particular vineyard here at St. Pius V to fruit. As the Master said to those he
found idling in the marketplace, “Don’t just stand there…do something!” (Not an exact translation from the Greek.)
Some things you might do:
* We need Ushers at all masses who are willing to attend training and commit to a schedule of ministry. We need men and women,
old and young, in this vital ministry of hospitality.
* We need Ministers of the Eucharist who would like to be trained and assume the ministry of Sacristan.
* We are relocating the Bookstore to the old Baptistery in the rear of the Church and need help with getting it set-up (on September
26) and with running it after Mass.
* We need help in renovating the Bookstore space so that we can rededicate it as a worship space for Mass and Adoration.
* We need help with a mid-Winter festival in connection with the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe and with our Spring Festival in
honor of St. Pius V.
* We need help in creating and expanding our plazas at the Church and at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
* We need catechists and classroom assistants in Faith Formation.
* We need receptionists and office help both in the Parish Office and in Faith Formation.
* We need musicians and singers and those who have an interest in media presentations to help us offer worship more fittingly to God
at Mass.
* We need Social Ministers to help us deliver food, services, and welcome to those who are in need.
* We need your labor, time and talents in in almost every area of parish life. Do you have some special gift? We can use it!
Go on-line to the parish webpage and follow the link for Ministry or Volunteers or call the parish office and ask that someone call you
with more information about Ministry and Volunteering.
In the love of Christ,
Fr. Joe
Queridos amigos,
Padre Joe

AGING MINISTRY INTEREST Attention Seniors- Your wisdom, experience, and help
is needed !!! — You may have heard that there is an
Aging Ministry being formed at St Pius V. One of the
first steps is to find out who is interested in
participating in fun programs, including regular social
events. Additionally, we would like to reach out to our
seniors who may wish to be socially connected with
the parish, and may be home-bound, living in nursing
homes or assisted living facilities, or need
transportation.
If you wish to be a part of this ministry, whether
attending events or helping with planning and having
fun social events, please let the parish know. You can
call the parish office and leave your name, phone
number, and email address (if you have email). You
can also fill out a form (gold colored located in the
back of the church). Please fill it out and place it in the
collection basket, or whatever is easiest for you, such
as personally drop it off or mail it to the church office.
Someone will be contacting you with further
information. Thanks,
Bob Wood, Aging Ministry Volunteer Coordinator
