We have picked May 8 – 12 as Mt. Nebo camping dates. Please mark your calendars, make plans, and pass these dates around to our friends who may be interested.

Lots of lead time here. Please note that May 12 is Mother’s Day. If I recall correctly, we’ve camped, or more accurately, returned home on Mother’s Day in the past. We have reserved the three traditional camp sites on the wall (14, 16, and 17), cabins are 72 – 73, the usual two across the road from the camp ground, and one additional cabin, 70, which is on the west side of the mountain. You’ll remember cabin 70 from a few years back when we gathered there for a smorgasbord lunch on the high porch in the back, with concrete deck and fire pit below, and great view of the mountains to the west. Please contact Rusty Smith [email protected], or Lee Smithson [email protected] to reserve a cabin space. The cabin cost is approximately $315 per person for 4 nights, depending on occupancy. I’ll have actual cost when I receive the email confirmation back from Mt. Nebo reservations. I know we all look forward to this great event. Again please share these dates; there are others who are interested in this trip who are not on our regular email list.

Save a little fire wood, think sunsets, city lights, good food, and pray for good weather.

When Dreams Come True...

Liturgical News

A Sunday School class for all those who would like to be confirmed or received into the Episcopal Church will begin on the first Sunday of Lent, March 10th. This class is open to ALL inquirers, however, whether or not you’ve been an Episcopalian all your life. You’ll learn (or re-learn) something new. We’ll focus on the history of the Episcopal Church, the liturgy, sacraments and holy days. We hope that you’ll join us as we journey together. Bishop Seage will make his annual visit to St. Philip’s at the Easter Vigil at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, April 20th, for Confirmation and Baptism.

Sure, every church says they want a simpler key system in their church, but as vestries talk about it, the discussions most often go on for years and years, and almost never do solutions come through. But not at St. Philip’s! After decades of discussion (and plenty of them in the past eight years), St. Philip’s is about to re-key the entire physical space! One of the positive aspects of this system is that for those who require keys (vestry, altar guild, support group contacts, children and adult formation volunteers, etc.) you will be given one key (yes, you read that right) that will ena-ble you to unlock the areas where you practice your ministry, even if you previously had to carry two or more keys. Another positive aspect is that all the thousands of keys that have been float-ing around northeast Jackson will no longer work and we will be able to monitor who has access to our property!

We hope to start this project in the spring, and it will take several weeks to key the locks of all our doors (which currently number near 100). The clergy, wardens and members of the building and grounds committee are working now to zone the property and determine who will need access to which areas. We will be in touch with you as we near the completion of the process to issue keys to the volunteers and support group contacts who are often in the various buildings after work hours or on weekends. It’s been a long time coming, but we are very pleased with the process and thankful to be moving into a place where fewer keys unlock more doors and we have the ability to more securely protect our property.

Cursillo #136

Page 4

#allarewelcome

Cursillo is a worldwide movement of the Christian Church which strives to penetrate and Christianize environments through Christian communities in action. It begins with a three-day Cursillo weekend that provides a living experience - meeting Christ, meeting fellow Christians and experiencing how they live. The Cursillo method described during the weekend provides a means to continue the Christian growth after the weekend. The resulting Christian community is a group of men and women who live the Christian life, linked together in Christ, and are supported in their environment. The dates for upcoming Cursillo to be held at Gray Center are March 28-31, 2019! If you are interested please contact Billy Ray Sigh at [email protected].

The Metro Male Chorus of Jackson is holding a benefit concert for the MPB Foundation! Join us Sunday, March 3rd at 2:30 p.m. at St. Philip’s, for the concert. The MMC will also host a set performed by its guest artists, Ballet Mississippi dancers accompanied by their artistic director, David Keary, on guitar. The program will include an all-American “Sacred and Profane Mass,” with some pieces taken from a traditional mass (Kyrie, Sanctus), and others set to secular texts such as a poem by Walt Whitman; a collection of traditional spirituals; and some glee club favorites borrowed from the world-famous Yale Whiffenpoofs. Tickets are available for $15 general admission, $10 seniors and military, and $5 students (with ID), both in advance (purchase online or call 601-432-6565) and at the door.
