Liturgy Corner Hospitality at Liturgy Greeters welcome us and help us feel at home; Ushers take care of making sure the space is comfortable and assist us in finding a seat. Hospitality ministers direct us to refreshments after Mass. However, beyond the obvious there is a hospitality that’s vital to parish life. That hospitality includes all assembly members opening themselves to encountering God and each other; to greet someone we don’t know, to help someone who needs assis-tance, to volunteer for various ministries – all with respect and without judgment. The SPN/SA Parish is looking for volunteers to join our Children’s Faith Formation (CFF) pro-gram. CFF conducts religious classes between 10:15am to 11:15am on most Sundays from Septem-ber to May at the SPN school. We have between 80 to 100 students each year being taught by a cadre of wonderful religious teachers called Catechists. We are looking for catechists at all grade levels from K to 7th grade. If you love working with children and would love to bring the Word of the Lord to them, think about joining our program. Effective July 1, 2016, the Diocese of Oakland will implement a new Safe Environment training called VIRTUS for both parish and school. After July 1, TRAINING WILL NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE ON SHIELD THE VULNERABLE. Therefore, ALL VOLUNTEERS will have to train using this new

system. We will provide a date and time for a workshop to train all volunteers. Please check the bulletin for future announcements.

SPN Olympic games were held in the school yard last May and everybody had a wonderful time.

Sportsmanship awards were given out to students and every class had representatives for every event.

Dear Parishioners, Altar serving is one of the oldest, most venerable ministries in the Church. For almost 1,800 years, the ministry of altar boys has brought about countless priestly vocations. This ministry of serving at the altar has brought me to be a priest at the altar. An altar server is a lay assistant to the priest during the Mass or to other members of the clergy in other religious functions including Benediction and Eucharistic Ado-ration. To serve at the altar as an altar server is one of the greatest sources of graces. The altar server as-sists the priest at the Sacred Liturgy; he/she is privileged to walk into the sanctuary. The altar servers stand next to the priest who stands at the Cross of Calvary. At the Consecration, they stand near the altar on which the Bread and Wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Undoubtedly, altar servers re-ceive countless blessings from Almighty God from serving devoutly at Mass. Even attending Holy Mass is the source of numerous graces. It is certainly more grace-filled for altar servers. The Mass is the Sacrifice of Calvary, and for that reason, all altar servers must display the utmost respect and reverence. For ex-ample, each and every single time that the server walks past the Tabernacle, he/she is to genuflect or bow to our Lord who is truly present in the Eucharist.

St. Philip Neri – St. Albert the Great parish is blessed with many altar servers who serve at various liturgi-cal events. As we thank you for your service at the altar, we also pray that you be filled with His grace to grow in wisdom and love of God. I encourage more young people to consider serving as an altar server, and to sign up soon for training and participation in a ministry filled with love of the Eucharist and spiritu-al graces.
