St. Peter's Good News
Luther Church Newsletter
Plainfield Township, Pennsylvania (610) 863-6859 April 2019
By the time you get this newsletter article, it will be spring. Whether or not it
feels like spring will be another matter. As we journey through the month of
April, we continue in the season of Lent, but by the end of the month, we will
celebrate the joy of Easter and begin the journey through the Easter season to
Pentecost. This is a time of great changes, in the physical calendar, and in the
church calendar. It’s also a time of great changes for St Peter’s as we talk about the future of our
ministry together, and the needs of that ministry. We are blessed to be able to say that we have
many ministries which are thriving here, ministries that serve the needs of our members and
ministries that meet needs in our community and beyond. I am always overjoyed to hear in our
committee meetings about what is being done here at the church, in people’s homes, and out in
nursing homes and other places that receive the benefits of the good works being done by the
people of St Peter ’s. But all of these ministries have one thing in common, the need for space.
So we have begun the process of engaging in conversation about the space needs of our worshiping
community, our various committees, our music program, our Christian Education program and our
outside groups that use our facilities.
This conversation has just begun, but we have already made some progress in identifying
ways that we can be better at utilizing the space that we currently have. I don’t know where this
space study will take us, but I do know that there are no quick solutions. There are some small
things that we can do to help alleviate some of the issues, like cleaning out storage areas to make
more efficient use of those spaces. But larger issues like Sunday School classroom space and
practice rooms for choirs, and additional areas for Youth and Adult Bible Study, will need to
be further explored. We may need to get creative in our current scheduling of worship
and Sunday School times or we may need to look at building additional space at some point.
I don’t have those answers, but I trust that, with God’s guidance, we will see where the Spirit
is leading us and have the courage to follow so that the ministry that is happening here
will continue to grow and be a vital part of the community and beyond.
If you have any questions or concerns about this space study, I encourage you to speak to
me or to one of the two church council members (Ryan Rotzell and Ann Super) who are leading
this initiative. We will be more than happy to talk to you.
Pastor Chris

For Social Ministries Lenten Project this year, we are looking to show our support to Bloom in Bangor. Bloom Creative Studio is a program
of Connections for Women, a local community-based non-profit organization serving women living in the Slate Belt. They believe art heals and that everyone deserves a chance to start over. Their Creative Studio is a supportive workplace for women leaving lives of addiction and violence. They receive 2 years of rent-free housing while they heal from the trauma life on the streets brings. When a woman enters our program she begins a 90-day intensive out-patient recovery program and then continues to build a life free from addiction and violence, with trauma informed and art therapy, life coaching and vocational training. Bloom Bangor graduates go on to live successful, self-sufficient and fulfilling lives, creating a new future for themselves, their families, our community, and our economy. Since opening their doors in March of 2016, Bloom has welcome 32 women into their home to heal from trauma and rebuild their lives beyond addiction. When you support our program or create in our studio space, you empower a survivor to start over and make a meaningful difference in the lives of some of the most vulnerable women. To help support this local cause, use the attached envelope and bring to church. For more information on how to volunteer or create in our studio, contact Carol at 570-977-0600.

They are in need of flip flops and body wash for the 29 residents and 50 to 75 people that drop in daily. Any donations can be placed in the yellow bin near the Friendship Room.
