Dear Parishioners: This has been a most unrelenting hurricane season. After having sent personnel and assistance to Texas, Florida, the Florida Keys, Cuba, and the U.S. Virgin Islands… now we

have the last batch of hurricanes named Irma, Jose, and Maria who have hit the beautiful tropical island of Dominica, and the island of Puerto Rico. Our kids have raised money for Catholic Relief Services and the parish and school have been praying for the victims,

those who are injured, or have lost their home and livelihood. The diocese has also taken up a special collection to help with the relief efforts. Many of our

Redemptorist priests and brothers are with their people in our English Speaking Missions in the islands. A good number of Redemptorists and our students also have family members whom they cannot reach due to communication towers and satellite dishes being down. It is likely to be some time until they are up and running again. Roads and bridges have been washed out. Water and electricity are hard to come by. In Mexico, they have suffered two back-to-back violent earthquakes where residents have gotten slammed again, after having started the massive clean up from the first tremors. Alfredo, our sacristan and Olga our cook both have family members there. They too, are having tremendous difficulty getting phone calls or any communication to loved ones. Please remember the people of Mexico in your thoughts and prayers! When we are stuck in traffic this week or have to wait in line at the store, let us remember how small our own inconveniences are in relation to those suffering in their hour of need. We pray that the Lord will watch over and lead them to safety, that He may be the constant companion of people in need of healing. We pray that people of good will may quickly come to their aide. We ask, O Lord, that those who lost their homes might be given the generous assistance to rebuild their lives once again. Thank you, ever so much for all of the generosity that you have shown and how you continue to support our brothers and sisters in harms way. May God bless you and your family. -Fr. Richard

Padre Richard
