“And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching

and preaching Jesus as the Christ.” Acts 5:42

The Worship Committee has decided upon this verse from Acts to serve as our guiding theme for a Saturday evening gathering. I love the direction God is taking us through this one little verse. Here we see the early church, unafraid of the world, daily proclaiming the name throughout the city. The apostles, having been beaten for preaching and teaching the Name, glorify God and continue their work because, “we must obey God rather than man” (Acts 5:29). Verse 42 then concludes the section and shows that they filled Jerusalem with the name of Jesus, from center to circumference, from the temple to the homes.

It is my hope that this service not only fits into our life rhythms, but also leads into the homes, im-pacts the families and the surrounding areas, filling our “Jerusalem” with the name of Jesus. Remember, our Jerusalem is a much larger area, from Dixon to Fulton and from Mt. Carroll to Erie. We here at St. Peter serve a large area and Morrison is truly a central location, much as the temple in Jerusalem was. Our capacity for making an impact in this world astounds me; we are truly blessed by God. I desire to utilize our impact for God’s glory, to be “house to house” in our teaching and preaching, to train our greatest disciple making resources – our families – in ways that they can impact their home and those around them - by teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ every day.

In the end, it is through prayer that I have come to this point. My role as God’s servant is to obey His command and leave the results up to Him. I recognize that only with God can this succeed and the measurement of its success will only be fully known by God. I thank Him for His continued guidance in all decisions being made to further His kingdom of glory here in NW Illinois. To God be all glory, praise, and honor – both in the temple and from house to house each and every day.

Blessed be the name of the LORD

From the rising of the sun to its setting,

the name of the LORD is to be praised!

Psalm 112:2-3

As we transition into the summer season it seems to

give us ample opportunity to see the glory of God right

before our eyes: beautiful sunrises and sunsets, rainbows,

the evening starlight, exploring in new places on vaca-

tion, etc. God’s glory is everywhere.

The Bible reminds us that He allows both the

“righteous” and the “unrighteous” to experience His

glory every day. What distinguishes “us” from “them” is

that God’s people acknowledge Him and praise Him for

the beauty of each day.

So let me ask you, do you take time each day to praise

Him for the things around you, or do you take them for

granted? If you’re not in the habit of thanking and prais-

ing God each day for something He has blessed you with,

why not start today? One thing I’ve seen from my own

experience is that when I take the time to praise God, He

opens my eyes to see more of His glory around me and

it’s exciting! “Rejoice in the Lord!”

Jill Horn has written another book! This one is written for any-one interested in sharpening their math skills. It’s called

"The Development of the Mathematical Mind."

It is designed to help anyone who struggles with math, or it can be

a good resource for children who are in the process of learn-ing math. Have you ever heard of a grain called fonio? It is a small and very robust grain that is easy to grow, especially in poor soils, and is resistant to both drought and periods of heavy rain. It is an excellent source of protein, safe for diabetic consumption and matures quickly, providing a much needed food source while other crops are still in the ground. But despite all the positives, not many farmers were planting this “wonder grain!” Why? Fonio is an extremely time consuming grain to process, (by hand, it can take up to 15 days to separate and husk a bag of fonio.) In 2008 LWR began working with a federation of woman fonio producers in the Segou Region of Mali. They became good risks, and having access to credit they purchased separating and husking machines. Now one woman can process a bag of fonio in just one to two hours! The word has spread and now there are 20 associations benefiting their communities. With the support given by LWR, farmers in Mali have more income, improved dietary options and household food security.

(4:4) This month’s selections, (Two books) are very different, but

both are claiming God’s joy. The first, an autobiography by Rich-

ard Wurmbrand, is called “Tortured for Christ.” A Romanian

Jewish Christian pastor, he lived through the worst that the Nazis

and Russian Communists did to him, and came thru without bitter-

ness, but with great love for his torturers.

The second book by Keith Miller is titled “The Scent of Love.”

“The scent thereof shall be as the wine of Lebanon” (Hosea 14:7)

What was it about the first-century church that attracted people? It

was the way those early Christians lived. They were caring, coura-

geous, and full of contagious joy. “God’s love hovered about the

New Testament church like a haunting, beautiful scent, and people

were irresistibly drawn to it.” (quote from jacket cover) Miller

seeks to help us recapture that heady aroma of love so our lives

can attract others to God and His great love.
