ELIZABETHTOWN, PA THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER APRIL 18, 2021

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Lord, Let Your Face Shine on Us

I am writing this to you from Anchorage, Alaska, where twilight illuminates the sky at 9 pm! It is simply

fascinating, and it is like a soothing balm on a stressed body. It was a long and tiring flight to Alaska from

Baltimore and more exhausting after praying the Office of the Dead and leading the Rosary's recitation at the

viewing of Fr. John Nwanze, OP, the first Nigerian Dominican priest. After the funeral home's viewing service, all

the Nigerian Dominican brothers in attendance proceeded to Fr. John's room to clear things out. Sifting through a

dead religious brother's belongings was not a pleasant chore though I ended up a lucky beneficiary of his JVC

headphone, novels, and pyx.

Why should you care to know about my experience with mourning and burying a dead religious brother? I felt like

the face of God shone upon me amid the mourning and morbid situation like the twilight that brightens the

Alaskan sky at night. I felt like Br. John lives on in our midst through some of his belongings that were shared

among the brothers. Symbolically and spiritually, Fr. John lives on in us and our testimony. We shared memories

of him. We were delighted in stories shared by others who he ministered to in Anchorage. These memories

turned the darkness of death into lights of life. When we gather to celebrate his funeral mass, we will testify to our

hope in God's mercy in "Jesus Christ the righteous one," the "expiation for our sins" ( 1Jn 2: 2-3).

We have faith that the Lord will hear us when we call upon him in time of our brokenness and distress. Jesus

died, and he rose. Our prayers bear witness to this mystery of faith. When believers in Jesus die, our belief that

they will rise on the last day brightens our damp spirit. Our faith in Divine Mercy, in God's forgiveness of sin,

heals our broken heart. In this way, God lets his face shine on us (Ps 4:7).

Live the Easter joy. Alleluia!

Fr. Bernard, OP

Holy Family Radio, 720AM Spring Fundraisers

It’s spring and Holy Family Radio is busily preparing for several events. Our annual Spring Pledge Drive began on April 15, lasting through May 14. Please consider supporting the only Catholic radio station in our Diocese. On May 11 at 7 p.m., we invite you to join us for FAITH RENEWED, our first virtual fundraiser. Join us as we hear from Bishop Ronald Gainer, Msgr. William King, and our main speaker, Father John Trigilio of Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in Maryland. An on-line auction will immediately follow the presentation and include themed baskets, dinner-theatre tickets and other special items. Please support Holy Family Radio 720 AM through your participation and generosity for all events. Purchase $25 tickets to FAITH RENEWED at 720whyf.com. Religious Education Happenings

What a busy, beautiful, and blessed month we had in March! The students

showed their love and knowledge about Saint Patrick and the Holy Trinity in

a variety of ways. Our Third Grade class modeled stewardship and service by

leading a collection for the Interfaith Shelter. Our 8th Grade Confirmation

Class participated in a meaningful and spiritual retreat that culminated in a

truly amazing Adoration. They were then treated to a delicious dinner served

by our 7th Grade Confirmation Class. God is good, and we are truly grateful

for our continued faith formation!

For over 130 years the Knights of Columbus has provided many opportunities for growing in faith, serving others and more for its members. The Knights of Columbus is not just a fraternity in name. It is a brotherhood of Catholic men who each play a part in improving the world around them, one community at a time. They stand together in faith, dedicated to uphold the principles they cherish while lending their support and strength to parish, home and fellow Knight. From charity for worldwide causes, to helping closer to home with volunteer activities, to a top-rated insurance program that protects those closest to you, the Knights makes the most of its brotherhood. Our local efforts include our prayer program, blood drives, and life programming. We encourage a building of a “church at home” with their families. Our fellow knights support in various ways all the ministries in the parish when possible. Make a stand among them, and you can discover how easy it is to make a difference in your life and that of others. Charity is the first principle of the Knights of Columbus. Knights are men who get things done. We volunteer our time to serve our parishes and our communities. And by working together, we were able to donate more than $1.5 billion and 700 million volunteer hours to worthy causes in the past decade. Knights have exclusive access to our top-rated life insurance products, available only to members and their families The KofC insurance agent is a Knight dedicated to helping his brother Knights protect their families Consider joining the 2 million other knights worldwide in making a difference. RED ENVELOPE CAMPAIGN

Hello parishioners! As you know, our high school youth are attending the Steubenville Youth Conference July 23-25. The youth group will hold the Red Envelope Campaign in the narthex this weekend and next. We

appreciate the generosity that you have shown in past years as this fundraiser has allowed many students to experience the best weekend of the year for Catholic high school students! In addition to aiding in covering the cost of the conference, this campaign will be used to cover expenses for future youth group events/outings. (Hershey Park trip and a fall retreat, to name a few). Please know that any amount donated is beyond appreciated and the money is being used to deepen the faith of our middle school and high school teens.
