FROM THE PULPIT:Current Series: Three Simple Rules for Todays Christian
Todays Message : Do Good
Todays Key Text John 13:34-35; Ephesians 2:8-10
What does it mean for you to do good? Where do you begin? What are the boundaries? Whenwe learn the reason behind Jesus words to love one another, we begin to understand the value of
doing good. As we love, we also become like Him and therefore are Christ in the world.Simple Rule #2 do good.

Health HintsFrom our Faith Community Nurse,
Grant Corrigan, RN, FCN
As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you,O God. I thirst for God, the living God.
Psalm 42:1 NLT
How much water did you drink today? Normally you should drinkeight 8-ounce glasses of water every day. A survey by RockefellerUniversity discovered that about a third of those who respondeddrank the recommended amount and nearly 10% drank none atall. This is cause for concern because water is essential to yourgood health.
Your body is made up of 96% water and to keep all systems function-ing optimally, it is important to maintain that percentage. For exam-ple, drinking water prevents symptoms such as fatigue, dry skin, headaches and constipation. Severe dehydration can affect bloodpressure, circulation, digestion, kidney function and even your joints.
In hot weather, you can lose fluids at a rate of a quart or more perhour so drinking water is important to replace what is lost throughperspiration, urination, breathing, and other body processes. If youmust be in the heat, drinking water will prevent cramping, nausea, and heat exhaustion. If you exercise, drink a glass of water about 20minutes before the activity and at least a half a glass every 15-20
minutes during the activity. Since many fruits are 80-95% water, theyare another source of fluid replacement.
Bottled water has its place if the local water tastes bad or if you areuncertain of its quality but its best to save your money and stick tonatural water and a healthy diet.
Dehydration is often signaled first by hunger or fatigue rather than bythirst, so dont wait to take your fill. In the same way, dont forget tothirst after God. The verse above shows that our physical need isequal to our spiritual need. God satisfies our physical thirst with wa-ter and our spiritual thirst with his Word.

Patti and I had some good friendscome visit with us this pastweekend. Being that we just re-
cently moved into our new home we have beentrying to make sure we had everything in placebefore their arrival. Patti is really big on hospi-tality and I have known her long enough tomake sure that I pull my load when folks comeby.
I was quickly dispatched to the grocery store forsome last minute supplies. It seems there is al-ways something missing from the pantry or therefrigerator so making runs to the store is com-monplace at the Martin household. For me, the
grocery store is not one of my favorite things todo so I have to make it a game in order to keepmy mind on the task at hand. For men, we kindof bag and tag things and we are in and outof the store before anyone else knows about it.As I was negotiating the aisles I got a big smileon my face because I was actually beating mylast time at the store. If I played my cards right Icould do everything I was sent to do in less than8 minutes. My basket was almost full and I wasrunning a minute and a half ahead of schedule.Pretty impressive stuff, huh? Working my wayinto the front of the store I realized the hardestthing was still before me: which lane do I pick forcheck-out? Im not one who normally is compla-cent on just standing still so I started lookingaround the front of the store to allow some non-productive time to slip away. Thats when I sawit happen.
A mother of two very young children had suc-cessfully negotiated the check-out line at thegrocery store and was awkwardly pushing her
cart (along with her two little children in tow) outof the store. I could see that she certainly
had her hands full. She was almost out thedoor when I saw a young man running to-wards her with a black bag clutched tightly inhis hands. He sprinted in and out of the
crowd of people shopping and finally reachedher. He called out, Maam! I think this isyours?! Clutched tightly in his hand was herpurse. I couldnt help but think about how likemy wallet, her purse must have containedthings that were very important to her. At thesound of the young mans voice she whirledaround with a surprised look on her face. What? she said. Oh my gosh! I didnt evenrealize I had left it back there. Thank you forfinding it and bringing it back to me. You dont
know what this means! I could tell by thelook on her face she meant every word. Icould also see by the smile from the youngman he realized he had done somethinggood that day.
Our second spiritual law for Christians is DoGood. It is going to be so important for all ous to remember those words this comingweek, especially when we see opportunities todo just that. But one thing about being a fol-lower of Jesus is we dont have to think aboutwhether or not to do something good. As a fol-lower, we just do it, per se. So, what will itake for you to do something good today? bet if you allow yourself to be you, as a fol-lower of Jesus, you will have so many storiesto share. Who knows, you just might see thereare other followers of Jesus out there just likeyou.
Prepared to be amazed (from Habakkuk 1:5)
Pastor Bob
