DEAR BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN CHRIST,
Henri Nouwen writes, "the table is the place of intimacy. Around the table we discover each other. It's the
place where we pray. It's the place where we ask: 'How was your day?' It's the place where we eat and drink
together and say: 'Come on, take some more!' It is the place of old and new stories. It is the place of smiles
and tears. The table, too, is the place where distance is most painfully felt. It is the place where the children
feel the tension between the parents, where brothers and sisters express their anger and jealousies, where
accusations are made, and where plates and cups become instruments of violence. Around the table, we
know whether there is friendship and community or hatred and division. Precisely because the table is the
place of intimacy for all the members of the household, it is also the place where the absence of that
intimacy is most painfully revealed" (Excerpt from With Burning Hearts)
As we approach this coming Thanksgiving, I realize that the tables we gather around--or don't gather around
--can be a source of joy for some, and a source of pain for others.
This is a time for us to practice compassion. How can the tables we gather around be places where we
encounter grace? This Thanksgiving, may we put aside all judgment, bitterness and anger that keep us from
experiencing intimacy at our tables.
On behalf of the parish staff, I wish to offer each of you and your families a happy Thanksgiving!
Fr. Tetzel

PASTORAL and FINANCE COUNCIL NOMINATIONS OPEN
Nominations will be accepted
November 23 - December 4 for both Pastoral and Finance Council.
What do the Councils do? The Pastoral Council is the advisory body that
collaborates with the Pastor in creating a pastoral plan to advance the faith life of the parish and further the
evangelizing mission of the Church. The council, through discussion, deliberation, and recommendation, strives to offer the Pastor sound advice regarding pastoral matters.
The Finance Council is the advisory body that assists the Pastor regarding parish finances, property maintenance, safety, security, and care of other resources. They assist with budgeting that reflects the pastoral priorities of the parish, working to maximize resources available using sound financial stewardship and maintenance practices.
Who should be Nominated?
Careful discernment should be a key part of the nomination and election of Council members.
Any registered parishioner can nominate themselves or another parish member they feel is qualified. Membership
of the councils ideally reflects the membership of the parish and has a mix of ages, genders, and skill sets.
Council members should be Catholics in full communion with the Church, outstanding in: faith, morals, and
prudence; who can adequately reflect the interests of the larger community. Members must be willing to devote
time to the work of the council including: meeting attendance (about 12 per year), soliciting of ideas,
providing constructive input, and providing leadership for initiatives. Special skills that can be helpful include:
competency in planning, information gathering, financial stewardship, budgeting, organizational development, group process, hospitality, outreach, human relations,
cultural awareness and others.
What is next? Thank you for taking time to prayerfully consider how you
or someone you know can help further the mission of Christ in our parish. You can make a nomination by
completing a nomination form, located in the Narthex, or contact the office for a copy. All nominees will be contacted
and asked if they are able and willing to serve. Elections will take place December 14 and 15.
