Dear Parents and Guardians,
M.A.D.D.fest 2017 – one week down, one week to go. This week, whenever possible, I took an opportunity to
watch the pupils perform. Each and every time I left there feeling so proud of who we are as a family. Our pupils
(and their teachers/coaches) have done a superb job and the end-result is magnificent. Congratulations to all –
it takes immense guts, determination and willpower to do what you do. All of you do it with such poise. Well done!
Congratulations to Diego de Abreu who made the Free State U/21 Men's Hockey team who will participate in
the IPTS in the first week of September in Potchefstroom. It is an outstanding achievement.
Well done to Thuto Smit who was selected for the SA CBC Soccer team, as well as to Nonofo Lebatlang who was
selected for the SA CBC Netball team.
St Patrick’s CBC received a Leaders and Achievers certificate at the annual PMR.africa Northern Cape East
Regional Survey Business Excellence Awards this week. Our school was rated 1st overall in our category by a

Please be reminded that the Waiting Class ends at 14h00 and Aftercare at 17h00. Even though we have
implemented a fining system for latecomers, it is really not fair to make the staff stay until after 18h00 on some
days.
Good luck to our primary school pupils who are participating in the Northern Cape Closed Chess Tournament in
Upington this weekend.
We wish to extend our sincere condolences to Mr and Mrs Solomon & Mr and Mrs Ward. Mr Solomon’s (Head of
Music) mom passed away this week. Our prayers are with you during this difficult time.
Furthermore, Mr Leahane, our school driver, also lost his dad this week. We are truly sorry for your loss.
As mentioned in last week’s WIS, some of the classes are colder than others and at the General Information
Evening at the end of last term, parents indicated that they would be interested in purchasing a branded school
blanket to be used in class. These are currently available at the Clothing Shop at a cost of
R150.00 per blanket.
The next PTA meeting will take place on Monday, 14 August 2017 at 18h00 in Mrs Datnow’s
class.
Yours sincerely,
Jacques Tredoux

5-A-SIDE SOCCER TOURNAMENT: 9 SEPTEMBER 2017
St Patrick’s CBC and the Parent-Teacher Association will be hosting a 5-a-side Soccer Tournament on
Saturday, 9 September 2017. The objective is to have a social, fun day for our pupils and their families and the
Soccer Tournament is open to both boys and girls. There will be various food stalls, a broadcasting station,
medals for the winning teams, and much more to enjoy.
The duration of each soccer game is 10 minutes. The fixtures will be compiled beforehand and each team
should play an average of 4 matches. This format will allow all pupils to participate in the tournament and will
also enable pupils of all fitness and skills levels to be included.
Please note that it is a compulsory school day for all pupils from the Crèche’s 3-4 year old classes through to
Grade 11.
The pupils will all wear the navy sport’ shorts and white sport’ socks and then each team may opt to either
wear the school’s white PE golf shirts or a personalised team t-shirt of choice. The team manager may arrange
the purchasing and printing of the personalized shirts, but there will most likely be a cost involved.
The cost to enter the tournament is R70 per pupil, which includes a medal, a team photo taken on the day,
as well as a financial contribution to the food stalls.
Please complete the registration form below and return it to the register teacher in a clearly marked, sealed
envelope by no later than Thursday, 24 August 2017.
The pupils are already very excited. The little ones will be divided into teams of 6, but the Grade 7 – 12’s will
compile and enter their own teams. The teams should come up with a team name.
The following food stalls have been identified:
Crèche – Candyland
Grade PR & R – American stall
Foundation Phase – Italian stall
Senior Primary – South African stall
Grade 8 & 9 – Colddrink/Water
Grade 10 & 11 – Tea Garden/Coffee Shop
Pancake Stall
Indian Stall
We require assistance at all the stalls. Kindly complete the reply slip below and send it back to school at your
earliest convenience.
We look forward to spending an enjoyable day with you and your family on the 9th of September.
Regards
